A friend mine just got a new computer, and he tells me that it beeps at random times. He says its coming out of the tower and not the speakers. I thought it might be the speaker on his modem, but he says he disabled it. Any ideas? Should he yank the modem out? Thanks!

Thanks twest. You are right it is coming from that little speaker. Do you know of what might be causing it to make those noises? Is there any way to shut it off besides unpluggin the wires? Peace.

it really depends when the beeping occures. if the person upgraded anything on the system make sure that the connections are snug especially the memory.
Hey u did say he just bought it right!?! return it get a new one!
if nothing works

His brother actually assembled it for him. I don't think he did a very good job since there is only 32MB RAM in it. In a p4 1.5ghz!!! Oh the humanity. :(
I imagine that everything is working fine on it, because it boots up no problem and runs ok. It just beeps, which is annoying the schit out of him.

it may be beeping because there isn't enough RAM

Just add some more RAM, see if it still beeps. If it still does, check just to be sure R2-D2 isnt inside.

Hmmm not enough RAM would cause it to beep? Oh well he needs some anyways so we'll see if that solves the problem. Thanks.

Yup, it could be heat because some mobos have a built in thermal alarm that will beep once the proc gets hot. What kind of temps are you getting on that? Anything over 55C should be taken into consideration. And for the love of all things furry... get more RAM!

Just out of curiosity, did he install any kind of memory monitoring software that might be trying to free up memory? Some such softwares can be configured to produce a sound whenever they see that available memory falls below a certain threshold, causing an attempt to "reclaim" some of it.
