Hey people,

I am quite new on here, but i have a few problems that i would like to share with you and see if you would help! i would be very grateful if someone could! :)
Basically i have a A7m266 baord with a 1.4AMD TBird :)
I have recently had a 60gig hard drive formatted and i installed XP on to it (previsouly i had a 6gig with XP on it orking PERFECTLY)
Now the the the third day after i had XP installed on the new drive, whilst using XP my CDROM drive DISSAPEARED!!!!! completly! :( I went to device manager and it says that the driver was installed but the device could not be found, sitting there with yellow !'s
Anyway i have had various burning appz on there, Nero, Clone CD and Fireburner the main ones. After the first time of the Cdrom drives dissapering (they work fine in dos and are found in the bios so not a connection issue) i formatted and got the CDROM drives back again, again after 3 days though or so. i installed Clonde CD and burnt two things with it, i then installed Nero and Fireburner (that previously in my 6 gigger worked fine) and then about 10 mins later i went to use the CDrom drive and it had dissapeared again completly!!!! WHYYYY!!?!?!??!?! :(
What someone has informed me is of the following :

As for the dissapearing act after XP is installed,.. this can also be attributed to incorrect IDE bus masters. Doesnt seem to effect Pentium systems at all. Mainly AMD boards using hybrid chipsets,.. ie: 761 North Bridge with a Via 686b southbridge chip. KT133 and KT266 boards do not seem to be effected. Problem lies that you can not apply VIA's 4in1 drivers for hybrid boards and if you do,. you WILL have problems. You can how ever use VIA's mini port IDE driver for the south bridge which is what it controls,.. USB and IDE functions. North Bridge chips control memory to CPU interface,.. AGP to CPU and PCI to CPU interface.

If you have installed the 4in1 drivers to a hybrid board like Abit KG7 various Asus A7V and various other boards,.. you need to break out the CDROM that came with it and reinstall the IDE bus masters from it.

NOW then.... If this is the case, then i havn't yet installed my Bios CD which has a miniport driver on it and a 3-in-1 driver on it, could this be the problem or does it lie within the software???

Can someone pleeeeease help me or know if they have had the same issue!!!!

Thank you VERY much for your help if you can :)

Regards,

Richard Saunders
