I don't think this should be posted in the deals forum, because I don't really know if this is a deal or not.

The question I have is: I saw Adobe Primiere listed for $80. Is that a good price? I always remember it being much more expensive than that. Is is just that Adobe software is going down in price?

I'm thinking of eventually setting up my own digital video editing computer, and I know that Primiere is a must. I'm also curious, if the prices are going down on Primiere, does that mean that they are coming out with newer/better video editing software?

I think I also saw that price at tigerdirect
you can always just go to their website to see how much they are selling it

Yeah, the only reason I asked was because last time I saw the price on it (yes, this was a while ago) it was like $1,200 with After Affects...

What version is it? And is it an upgrade or standalone, oem or retial?

ahhh, see, I didn't think of that!!

Maybe that accounts for it... I'll go and check; get back when I find out.

I didn't know that there is an upgrade version of Adobe Primiere. The way they showed it, it looked like a standalone, and retail. Anyway, I'll check around.

Hey,
Post a link to this killer deal.
I'm still stuck using Premiere 4.2. An upgrade to 6 for $80 would be great even version 5 for $80 would be good.

I've checked Tiger Direct and I can't find it.

Okay, it says that it says it is "Adobe Premiere 5.1- Full Retail Box"

BUT, inside the window it says:

Adobe Premiere 5.1 features: Optimized drivers integrate fully with Premiere 5.1 Full DV device control from within Premiere DV Batch capture Cut List Timeline Playback

Dunno if that means that this is just an ammendment to the main program.
Anyway, the link is here:

bah 5.1 . . . sucked. You gotta get 6 if you want no headaches with firewire problems. 5.1 was hell 5.5 was a leetle better but still plagued with problems.

Ahh.. good to know... especially since I was considering using it in conjunction with a dig-camcorder and firewire port...

This could still be better than buying 6 for full retail cost.
Premiere 6 full retail $900 - $1000 CDN
Premiere 6 upgrade $250 - $350 CDN
Crappy Premiere 5 full + 6 upgrade = saving$$$

However I'm a little sceptical of this deal. If it were the upgrade for 5 I would believe it. If it turns out it is an upgrade you're screwed. Adobe upgrades don't come with a serial #, you use the serial # from the full version. For example as I upgrade Premiere for myself I would continue to use the serial # from 4.2.

Yeah, but if 5.1 is as bad as spigidygak says, they probably would get rid of it for around $80. Besides, they list it as full retail, so if they don't send the full retail version, just send it back.

I thought I remembered hearing about a version 5.5. It was never released as a full install, but was simply an upgrade. I'm not sure though, that just seems to be what I remember.
