I want to setup an old computer to be an ftp server in my house but I don't know where to start. I want to be able to access the server from work or a friends house. What do I need to do?

Get server software to start.
SerU, WarFTP, G6 and there are more. Check www.zdnet.com/downloads/
Do you have a static or dynamic ip addy?
Search the forums here for more info.

You might want to check the policy of your ISP to see if setting up an FTP server will violate their acceptable usage policy.

You'll need a permanent dns then to point to your ip. You can get one for free at www.dns2go.com

Aren't there also other options besides FTP?
Maybe set up a fileserver through irc or something... dunno,it is as much of a question as it is a statement: Any other options besides FTP?
