What temps should my Athlon Thunderbird 750 and motherboard be running? I suspect mine is running a little hot. I have been having some lockups and I don't know if the CPU is overheating or the game (Diablo II) is crashing.

what's your temp?

mine runs at about 32-35C idle and about 40-45C on a full load.

Keep it under 50C for sure.

you can go to www.cpuid.com I think...and you can see what your temp is at!

It's runing warm, but under 50c. I think I will just add another case fan and see if that helps. If it doesn't I will reseat the cpu fan, remove and replace any tape with grease and such.

First of all. Check HSF security. make sure it is stable and locked in correctly.

Second- What is the fan /airflow arrangement like? do you have more fans OUTAKING air than INTAKING air? That is what you want. more out, less in. This does not mean have four 80 mm out fans, and one in...3 out and one in is fine. or even 2 out. 2 in.

Third, what is the hole setup in the case? do you have enough holes for air to come into the Case? ? ? ive cut wholes in mine.big holes

good luck

The system isn't clocked. It has only the power supply pumpong air out.
I added a fan to feet it air (right over the CPU) but it didn't help. I am assuming something has failed. I am going to pull out one of the DIMMs and see if that fixes it. If not I will try the other. Then I will pull everything but the video and add it until I have a failure. If that doesn't do it I am going to de-commision the system and look for a new MB+CUP combo.

It wasn't the heat. I pulled out a DIMM I put in a couple of months ago. All the problems went away.

On the DIMM, let me guess: Fry's 90-day Special?

If it is, I got burned just recently with a 256MB PC133 DIMM. I had to replace it twice before I got one that would work right  (Fry's has a REALLY bad habit of putting "Marginal" returned merchandise back into stock). :dodgy: I have seen them put Hard Drives I told them were bad and they would just see if it spun up and would then put an OK sticker on it... I swear sometimes I just want to :bonk: them.
