View Full Version : AdCritic Shuts Down

AdCritic.com has enjoyed a sucessful life as a leader in the area of archiving television and radio advertising and related information for both consumers and the advertising industry. Our business, although strong, has been unable to weather the current economic realities beseiging the United States today. The short answer: we became so popular so fast that we couldn't stay afloat!
We thank you for your continued support of AdCritic.com, and hope that we will be back in full swing someday soon.
What a shame. I always enjoyed this site. Hopefully it will make a comeback at a later date.

Adcritic was a great site but most people knew that it's too difficult to pay for that kind of bandwidth. It was just a matter of time. It's too bad they didn't get bought up by some big entertainment company like the GO network. Maybe there's still hope though.

too bad adcritic is shutting down. i liked that site, since i never really watch tv so i had no other way of seeing the ads everyone was talking about.

To answer Brew's question, I received this email from adcritic about a month ago:

Another bookmark to delete from the list. Too many times that has been done. http://sbp777.homestead.com/files/santafrown.gif And there will be more sites going down to come.
http://www.guru3d.com/ also shut down today. It was a good place to download drivers and tweakers. Playnet gave the sites owner a whole 5 days to get another host. After 2 years of spending countless hours working on the site and of dealing with numerous hosting changes Guru3d's owner had enough. Add to that the fact a lot of people are unappreciative of the work done on sites.
The only ones who are making money are the big sites. And the fewer sites there are, the harder it will be to get objective news. Its no good if huge sites dominate everything. For example, Tomshardware and Anandtech for tech reviews. Gamespot and PC.IGN for games.

I just saw this really funny fox sports comercial furing THE BEST DAMN SPORTS SHOW PERIOD where the 2 whites dudes are pretending to be black and the show footage of one guy playing the lakers. Anyway, i thought, i'll see if adcritic has that to download, then i remembered. ahhhhh!

you would think that advertisers would have paid them a little bit to keep the site running. i mean, it was free, unsolicited advertising. it was the best way to advertise, period.
