Belden 10/100 NIC Cards and Altec Lansing ADA 880 Speakers.
Have you ever thought why Dell would allow so many buyers to be upset with them?
Is Dell so big and powerful that they can get away with actions like this?
Is there a benefit for Dell resulting from misleading so many?
The answer to these questions is most likely a big YES.
Did Dell know from the start that they could not feasibly deliver large quantities of the NIC Cards, a $24.99 list for $0.81, S&H included, or the Altec Lansing ADA 880 Speakers a $300.00 list at a delivered price of $21.21 less 15%?
Yes, of course they did. Michael Dell's organization didn't get where they are by being stupid.
Am I stupid to think they would ship?
Yes, and no. I understand that profit is what keeps a business in the black, but there are many reasons why a company such as Dell, would sell off inventory, or special merchandise at ridiculously low prices. I'm not the only one to scour the Web for deals almost every day. I have purchased many items that were delivered to my door without any S&H fees, with FREE products for ordering, such as cases of printer paper, camera's, attache' cases, etc, and by using promotion codes for dollars off the order and mail in rebates, have made a profit in cash and had the product to use, sell or give away.
So, We're not stupid for thinking this deal is "too good to be true" based on our own past experience.
This was my first purchase at Dell. It will also be my last. I placed three orders on 12/12. The first was never acknowledged or confirmed by e-mail. The second and third were. I called Dell on the phone. They even told me who my "account manager" was. I called them three times since the 12th, as recently as Monday, 12/17. I was assured each time that all three orders are good, and will ship. The S&H charges on two of the orders that appear will be credited at shipping time. Nothing to worry about, the CSR's said.
Yes, I believe they knew they will NOT be shipped, ever.
Why did dell wait nine days to cancel? Your guess is as good as anyones. They had to receive thousands of orders that they knew would never ship.
Why?
Look at the data base they have compiled with just these two items. They never knew me or many others before this. Now, they have my REAL name, REAL address, REAL phone number, REAL e-mail address, credit card number, and lots of other information that can be deducted from the type of order we all placed. I can almost promise the spam will be increased on my "protected" e-mail address.
Lists that contain current, valid information like we gave them is of great value to Dell, their business partners and those companies willing to buy that information from Dell.
Yes, I think I've been had. As with many businesses, much money is made by things we don't know about.
What can we do? Not much. You're only kidding yourself if you think the BBB will help, or the FTC or your state attorney generals office. Dell will say they made a mistake, and sent proper notice.
I've spoken my piece here. I will not buy from them, as I see them as a despicable organization. The defenders are foolish to believe this was a slip up by Dell. If it were that, it would have been handled very differently. But that's just my opinion !
Wish all who endured this note a happy holiday.
