Are you suppose wait 6 months before waxing new car?

I was told by someone that I should wait to let the paint "cure" properly before having it waxed. True, or just anal?

It's kinda anal, but it's very true. The paint doesn't fully cure for about that period of time (of course, there are other variables like heat, sunlight, moisture, etc).

Avoid both wax and polish in the first 6 months. You don't need it anyway. Water should slide off the new, slick, smooth surface.

I personally have never waxed new cars in the first 6 months or so. Then again, I never use synthetic oils in the first 3000 miles and observe a break-in period within the first 1k miles. So, take it how you will.

Wax after 6 months

Machine wash (carwash) after 2 years. It really takes 2 years for paint and Clearcoat to fully cure.

but it will be november before 6 months is up, and too cold in boston to go out and wax. I really want to wax it up now. Do you guys think that the "6 month" rule is for real?

Hey Raj its cool to wax your car, its only new paint that needs to wait 6 months. New cars you can wax right when you get them. Thier paint has been cured by the factory.
