I heard that cougars, t-birds, and mustangs, don't really like having their insides steam cleaned

Steam tend to cause hoses and things to crack (tends, not always, and not all hoses). If you do decide to do it, make sure the hoses are probably coated afterwards.

I have washed my engine down with a hose.

Disconnect battery. and cover the most sensitive electrical component and SPRAY. Dish washing soap does wonder on an engine.

I have no problem so far knock on wood.

I've always heard that if you are going to steam clean an engine, pull it first. Otherwise, just scrub it down by hand. Get some emulsifiers to break the grease down and just wipe.
