I have a computer with a corrupted version of Win98 on it. I want to reformat the drive and put Win98 back on it. My question is, where do I get the format.exe program at? It's not located on my boot disk that I created. Thanks.

umm....are you sure it's not on the boot disk you created? It should be, I just formatted a drive on one computer yesterday and I'm about to reformat my main computer tonight(I use win98 on both). Just try "format c:" (replace "c" if that is not the drive you want to format) once the boot disk finishes loading.

Can you create a new start-up disk and see if it is on there? I should be. I wouldn't see why the format option wouldn't be there. Do you have fdisk and other utilites?
www.bootdisk.com might be of help here.

the boot disk that most people use is the one that comes with windows98. You will probably be able to find that at www.bootdisk.com, but that is a copy-protrected disk so they might not have it. otherwise, you might have some difficulty with the one you made yourself : YOu'll need CDRom drivers to reinstall 98. I cant remember if they get copied when you use "Format diskette and copy system files",
I sometimes make disks by using the windows "Format diskette and copy system files" then i go to c:\windows\command and copy these files:
format.*
and fdisk.* to the floppy. They will fit. YOu mgiht also want scandisk.*
Good Luck

Hey thanks everyone for the helpful advice. I did it the hard way; I put the HD in another computer as a slave drive, formatted it, then put it back and booted from CD-Rom. I was forced to do this because the floppy disk drive on that computer didn't even work! Anyhow, thanks for all your help. :thumb:

Oh, by the way, do you guys remember the dos commands to xcopy the .cab files from the Win98 CD to the hard drive? It's been so long, I forgot. :P

xcopy x:\win98 c:\win98
and answer (D)irectory when prompted.
