Hello,
I recently bought a new xp system and have been going through the fun process of updating all my software and hardware for use with xp. Unfortunately, I can't get my old burner, HP CD Writer Plus 9100, working. I installed Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum and did all the xp updates on the site.

http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/xpup.jhtml#xp

This installs the software and my device manager says the drive is installed as well, but when I put any sort of CD in the drive, it freezes the entire system. I have tried removing the burner driver and reinstalled it. No luck.

I have the burner installed using a Promise Ultra 100 PCI Controller and the burner is the only device attached to it. Could this be the problem?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Have you turned off XP's built in burning software?

No I haven't. How would I go about doing this? Thanks.

make sure the promise drivers are up to date, and check for any new firmwares for the HP.

Ohh, try disabling the direct CD function of Easy CD. Even after the patches, Easy CD is still a bit buggy on XP for some reason.

Isn't it because they are both trying to do the same thing? Making the CD into another hard drive so to speak.

No, it's because Easy CD sucks. Eh, that's too harsh...no, they are having a crapload of problems with it under XP...I finally uninstalled it - never used it much anyway.

Yeah, I only used it for data, but Nero can easily do that.
