View Full Version : AIM Exploit
Does anyone know how to fix the exploit that crashes AIM? Some "Friend" kept IMing me a string of some sort, probably HTML, that shutdown AIM automatically. The program didn't crash, it just shut down...very weird.

I have never heard of that before... could it be a virus?

Yeah, I've heard of it, and how the exploit works and how to do it :)
Send me your screen name and i'll show you ;-) Just Kidding.
Anyway, AOL has no fix out at this time, but my solution would be to put your privacy settings to "Accept messages from people on my buddy list only", and get remove whoever is sending you that crap. Good Luck

w00w00.org has revealed this (http://www.w00w00.org/advisories/aim.html) AIM exploit. I'm not sure if this is the one that affected you, Memo, but it's an interesting read.
AOL fills AIM security hole (http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,5101170,00.html?chkpt=zdhpnews01)
"AOL Time Warner on Thursday plugged a security hole in its instant messenger application that experts say could have provided wiggle room for a widespread and destructive worm.
The company said it implemented a server-side fix, meaning that customers will not have to download the patch. As earlier reported, the security bug affected AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) version 4.7 and the 4.8 beta, or test version. Only AIM users running Microsoft's Windows operating system are vulnerable."
