I disconnected the ram-air on my Metro (stop laughing) to let the engine breathe warm under-hood air to see what impact it would have on fuel economy. Averaging the last three tanks, up from 38.5 to 42.1mpg. Over 9% improvement, just from warm air. On the other hand, my passing "power" is noticeably less.

Did u have the filter on? for you to get that increase? Yeah, the same air filter is on either way. It's the factory filter - I just removed the under-hood fender air feed and added a fresh air feed from the bumper opening.

OHHH so u just changed the air tube location! I thought u just took off the hose so just the air filter is there!

The factory setup has a tube from the filter housing above the TBI to the passenger fender. I remove this tube and added a new one so it takes in fresh air from the bumper opening. NOW I've removed it altogether so it simply takes in warm under-hood air. The factory air-filter housing remains untouched.

Hmm... that's interesting, OC. I know on older Ford pick-ups there is a tube that sucks warm air directly into the carburetor. I never realized that it did that much for the mileage though.

One thing you might want to try (if you are having less power while passing) is to see if you can set it to suck air from behind the radiator. That way, you should be able to get both warm air and a good air flow. Just a thought.

thats a complete hoax d00d :) just ask any true car guy. all it does is block airflow and kills HP.
