What is the MAX $ you would pay for a new daily driver?

Please note that I said "daily driver", not weekend toy or collectible.

New or used is fine, as long is it would truly be a daily driver. For me, 20k.

when i can afford my Testarossa, i'll pay $65k for a daily driver :D

right now, i wont go into debt over a vehicle, so my max would be $9500... or if i sold my car and bike, about $16k. But i wouldnt spend it. I'de get another nice older BMW for under $6k.

I have never paid more than 6K and I doubt that I ever will pay more than that. Cars are lousy investments, no matter how you look at them. My daily driver gets me to work, shopping and to Karaoke events and church. So trying to impress someone(who you really can't impress anyway)with my daily driver is no big deal to me.

Cars are not always lousy investments. My friend buys Ferraris and flips them several months later at a profit. He bough a 355 Spyder and held it for a year and made $20k over what he paid for it. He bought an F50 and flipped it a week later to make $75k.

That's disgusting. I was just talking to my bro about his old Range Rover (98 4.6HSE). He said he could see the needle on the gas guage move while he was driving. But then their new car is a 2001 Mercedes S600. That V12 guzzles gas like no other.

At least the S600 automatically shuts down 6 of the cylinders when they're not needed.

Plus I think that the market for Ferraris is a lot bigger on the West Coast then the East Coast. I never see them running around the Philly area, and I mean never.

But it's still a very heavy car so it still burns a lot of gas when it's running on 6 cylinders. I put about 150 miles or so on it and got the average mpg at 18.5 or so. Mind you this was mostly highway. I have a 2001 C320 and the same drive I can get it up to 27mpg.

He pays all over the place for them. He paid $190k for his 360 Modena. He's not going to sell it since he loves it so much. He just purchased a 360 Spyder to be its garagemate at $225k.

I think as I make more money in the future, that range will begin to climb...I am thinking it will top off at 45-50k, but I could be wrong :heh:

wow....i didn't know g|a? drew such a classy crowd. right now, i wouldn't pay more than $5k-$6k for a daily driver. it's just not worth it to me. someday, if i'm making mid-6-figures, i can see putting down $50k for a daily driver, but right now, i'm just not up that high.

I suppose if you're a car person it makes a difference. I know many people who could care less about the "Drive" to work and only really concern themselves with gas mileage.

I actually ENJOY driving. When I got my A4, I kept hearing myself say in the morning, "Alright... I get to DRIVE to work!" Rather than "Cripes, I gotta go to work."

And that was when my commute was a 45 minute drive down the 57. Now it's a 6 minute scoot down MacArthur. But it's still fun... everytime I turn the key.

Although... if I had to budget more conservatively, I'd probably go with an '89 Supra Turbo. That'd be about $5000 or so.

Well, I guess I don't really go either way with driving. For me, driving is a time to think and relax, that is why I prefer automatics. But I also don't like to be wasteful, so as far as I'm concerned HP and torque really only have a place in vehicles used for carrying a load/towing.

As for the rest of them, give me mileage over HP any day.

Sometimes though, I have second thoughts about it. I mean my operating costs per month is around 700-800. But you know, these cars are just so much fun to drive compared to my old ones. :D

I guess a daily driver (no more than 30k miles/year) would be 50k then, if and when I can afford it.
