hey guys, i'm trying to install windows xp on my new cpu...i keep getting this message on a blue screen...

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

it suggests that i remove any new hardware and restarting...so i took out all my expansion cards, except my video, and i tried it again, and again i got the error. i hope my hard drive isn't messed up.

oh, i sometimes get this one too

IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL

any suggestions????

Go to http://support.microsoft.com & look up the exact error. There's a bunch of different variations of both of those messages.

The second one is usually related to funky drivers - most importantly, drivers that are installed for devices no longer there. Also, EZ CD creator 5 can cause that error. Uninstall any and all software you do not need, that you find in the add remove panel. Also, under the device manager, go view -> show hidden, and check for any conflicts

well, i'm sorry, i failed to mention that i did a clean reformat and a fdisk and all that jazz...i can't even get the windows to install so i'm diff. sure it's not a previously installed software issue. i know that the cd-rom i'm using was acting kinda funky, gonna replace that today once i get home, and maybe try another install cd...wish me luck.

no, i'm not overclocking...it's a athlon 1700+ i just put the board in, reformatted the HD, and trying to install XP. and these damn errors. so far i've replaced the cd-rom, and even went so far as plugging the HD to my old dell and installing XP using the dell...and it worked fine.

which leads me to believe i'm a dumbass and installed something incorrectly (hardware-wise) on this new custom build...argh...

I had this same problem a few days ago. I kept trying to installed Wind XP Pro and it would crash during install and give me a blue screen. This was when I was trying to format the HD to NTSF. I formatted to FAT32 and it installed PERFECTLY. I really don't know why it was doing it, but it fixed the problem for me. I thought it might have been a fluke so I formatted back to NTSF and same problem. Back to FAT32 and voila, installs pefectly. You might want to try this.

the nice thing(maybe) about NTFS that I have notice. If you got hardware problem and your not aware of it won't install. That might be a added benefit just incase something bad really happens.
I always, well most of the time run into hardware issues, but easily manageable.

i finally got this biotch to work, the problem???

it was the stinking floppy drive that i got from a buddy of mine...seems like that was the thing that cause all the problems...i thought it was working fine, cause it was reading floppy disks just fine, then today it wasn't...so i just unplugged it altogether and voila! XP installed perfectly! (i also remembered you guys saying that the error was usually associated with driver probs...so i put two and two together)...thanx a whole bunch, i really appreciate the help and suggestions you guys gave...

now time to brag...
