I have the SMC Barricade (7004ABR) and I can't get AOL Instant Messenger to Direct Connect or MSN Messenger to send files. I have DHCP Server disabled and all my computers have assigned IPs. I tried the DMZ host and that didn't work. Has anyone been able to get this to work and if so, what settings do you have?

Hmm, people can direct connect to me but not vice versa. Is there a way to fix it?

had the same problem with my low-budget ISP who uses a linksys router to do DHCP in my apartment building.
You are right about the port forwarding, i cant remember exactly, but in AIM Preferences i think i specified a port for transfers and sharing, pick a port i guess, and then enter it into the router to forward that to your IP Address.

Have you already done that?

Ya i've done that. People can connect to me but I can't connect to them it seems.

what is your incoming port set to?
what is your _outgoing_ port set to?
AIM lets you set both. Your machine isn't on DMZ anymore right?

No it is not DMZ anymore. Here are my settings:

And where can you set the ports in AIM? You can set the ports to connect to the AIM servers, but you can't specify the ports for direct connection.

i have the newest version of AIM, 4.7.2....

That has two screens of preferences for file transfer and file sharing. Maybe you want to upgrade. Otherwise i cant remember the port numbers to do the sharing. Also i think its important that you keep the port numbers consistent inside the firewall and outside the firewall, so as not to confuse AIM. IE trigger port and public port are the same. AIM might be sending out the info that "Hey i'm broadcasting on port 28800", but the firewall is providing that service on port 4443

See if that does anything :)
My handle right now is rb6666 if you want to try transfers for a few more minutes you can IM me
