I am a qualified Microsoft OEM System Builder, as I am sure so are some of you. Although I am very Internet savvy as an end user, I have never built a small business Web site, but would like to get into this business. Microsoft recently made this offer to me (and I quote from their OEM System Builder Newsletter):

"Microsoft bCentral - the one-stop portal for online business
Sign up to become a bCentral Channel Partner between May 1st and July 31st, you'll receive a full year of bCentral's Premium Business services package, a Not-For-Resale copy of Microsoft Office 2000 Premium featuring Front PageŽ, and a special edition bCentral cap and Channel Partner card. Most of all, you'll be entitled to earn unlimited commissions on all bCentral services sold to your customers either separately or as economical package deals. Have we mentioned the unlimited commissions? Get all the details and sign up today:

(** Note form Franco: You will need to be a MS OEM System Builder to use this link)
http://oem.microsoft.com/namerica/506029.asp

Note: offer available in the US only"

The cost to me is $99.00.

This would seem to be an excellent deal and would allow me to "learn by doing" in terms of creating a small business site for my own business.

If some of you nice folks have any knowledge of these products, would you be so kind as to comment? Also, other than the obvious need for high speed Internet connection, please comment on suggested minimum system (i.e. PC) resource requirements, such as processor speed and type and amount of memory to properly support these programs.

Thanks in advance for your indulgence.

Franco

It is an excellent deal.

As far as system requirements, any recent PC can handle a small business site. PIII processor, at least 128MB ram, and a fast connection is all you need.

You'll only need a beefy machine if you plan on having a large volume of hits and/or a database connected to your site.
