I dont know why, but i just cant figure out why im having problems with my shares on my home network. i only have 2 computers, one running Win2K sp2 and the other running Win98SE. I can access all the files and shares on the 98 box with the 2K box, but when i try to access anything on the 2k box from the 98 box, i get a prompt to enter a password just to access path \\Win2kBox\IPC$. I think that this is from one of the security updates, but im not 100% sure. I dont know what the password is and i have tried every password i know to access this. any ideas?
Thanks, Tommy

By default, it uses the same username that you used to "log in to" the Win98 machine. When you try accessing a share in Win2000, it trys the same username and password combination. If the password authentication fails, it prompts you for the correct password for this username.
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you didn't create a user like that on the Win2000 machine. You have two choices -- either create the required user on the Win2000 machine and appropriate password and access rights or log in to the Win98 machine using the same username/password combination that you use on the Win2000 machine. Hope this helps. :)
