View Full Version : Hockey dad guilty
From cnn.com (http://www.cnn.com/2002/LAW/01/11/hockey.dads.trial/index.html)
Jurors found Thomas Junta guilty Friday of involuntary manslaughter in the beating death of Michael Costin.
That was the lesser of the two charges he could have been convicted of.
Junta, 44, did not flinch when the verdict was announced. He was led away in custody by a bailiff. Sentencing is scheduled for January 25
I'm all for this verdict. The fact that the two parents even came to blows is stupid, let alone one of them get killed.

good riddance. he'll be in jail for no more than 20 years, that should give him a chance to learn how to behave. look at what he taught his kid. i'm glad they're making an example of him. sideline violence and parents getting pissed is ridulous and needs to be put in check.

I agree with all of you. This guy was a bully who never grew up, who killed a father in front of his kids. I can't think of a more messed up scenario then to be a child and watching your hero go out like that. I hope this guy gets cornholed on a daily basis.

yeah when i first heard about the whole thing, i thought it was pretty jacked up. let him stew on it for a bit, maybe they should castrate him so he won't be so aggressive when he gets out... hmmm

Things like this make me wonder why we got away from "an eye for an eye."
Give the the kids of that guy who got killed 5 years and a couple of baseball bats, and I'm all for early retirement (pun intended :P ).

my problem with the "eye for an eye" thing is like it implies that it's ok to do something as long as you're willing to pay the price. it doesn't account for variables such as the first guy may not value his eye that much and the second guy's life may depend on it. i could have a bad eye that i can hardly use or even be blind in...i'd be willing to give up that eye to poke out someone else's eye in a fit of rage. it's not a trade.
maybe there should be interest added on to that eye. say...both eyes...and if one is bad, then throw in a testicle. in this case it was a whole life that was taken...so you can't just kill him. kill him, plus add pain and suffering. you can't use a calculator to equate all the years of sorrow for the family that has no father...so you should just round it off to 20 yrs in the joint getting his ass pummeled like the detroit lions' offense, then give him the chair...or lethal injection- with a dirty needle.

Good points, mojo, but I think by that point, he wouldn't really care if the needle was dirty! :heh:
