Okay I have a dilemna, I am 17, and cant stand working for these supermarkets and such. I am extremely competent, and I am currently first in my junior class. I need to figure out a way to get paid for what I am truly worth, as I am probably more knowledgeable than most of the people I work for at supermarkets gas stations. I need to go out and enojoy myself. I have taken a look at some MLM crap, but that seems like a waste of time. I can learn almost anything computer related. I just need to find a market for a skilled person. I live in New York, if locality helps at all. I am trying to figure out a way, online if possible, to make large sums of money. An initial investment isnt out of the questions, but I would like to restrict it to below 500, as thats what i have left from my crappy shelve stocking days. Any ideas, or experience would be greatly appreciated. Have any of you made consistent money from ebaying deals merchandise? I am not looking for chump change either. I am interested in a repeatable method for making several thousand a month with minimal time requirement, as i need time to study. I appreciate your assistance. I have looked into spamming, as well as carding. Both appear to be dead-end tracts for online profiteers who have little to lose if they were convicted and had to face the court systems. I appreciate any feedback.
Thanks

PS: The reason I need the money is so that I could buy a new car, i am thinking somehwere in the range of 10k. THis is quite a feat, and any of your experiences with MLM would be additionally appreciated.

-If you feel the need, you could additionally email at [email protected] I would be willing to partner with others interested in beginning a company of some sort. I have c++, html, access, and general computer proficiency.

2 things...

MLM dont work (well, not most of the time)

Keep Dreaming :) If someone ever figured out a get rich quick scheme, they sure wouldnt share it with anyone else, cause that would kinda spoil it for them... hehe.

Sorry. The only scheme that I know of that fits your requirements involves an initial investment of a gun, and a ski mask. Kinda risky though...

It's funny how when you are young you can't wait to "grow up" and then when you're as old as me you long for the way things were. :D

hmm, I want a new car so I can go out and have some fun with it. I want something that wont require a lot of time, so I can thus enjoy myself, which is the reason I quit my job at a supermarket. I am seriously considering trying one of those MLM things, if I signed up, isnt reasonable to assume others would try the same. Im unsure, but thats just my $0.02
thanks, oh yeah, im not trying to grow up quickly, i just want cooler toys for while im young
lol
thanks

i was never really like that, i did get pissed when i couldn't do stuff like driving etc. but it never bothered me. And i still wouldn't mind being younger.

xsiled was pointing out that if you buy a car a year old, you can save yourself about $5k from original sticker price on a NEW car.

Personally, i'de rather buy an older cheaper car like a '91 325is for about $4.5k, and sink another $5 or $6k into it including a full balance and blueprint, and supercharger or turbo :)

or just go buy an 88 or 89 M3 e30 :)

BMW IS the ultimate driving machine... untill you buy a ferrari :D

the fact that a car is new means nothing, the first day you drive it it looses that extra 5k or so. buy a leased car that way its like new and you have many to choose from.

its not thats its new that matters, I want something sharp, ie 93 supra... I am not looking for a get rich quick scheme either, I just was interested in knowing if anybody has any experience with jobs that would yield a technologically inclined person could do at a young age with relatively no experience. I am considering multi-level marketting, and possibly email marketting. I would be interested in any other ideas, as I am in need of money for a 93 mr2t, which is a pretty solid investment. Oh well, thanks anyway

I take it that people at supermarkets in New York make less than Los Angeles. I have friends that make from $16-$26 working at supermarkets. They have those days when they get triple pay and clock a nice $500 for a day of work. The only thing is that the union dues are rather steep ~$4.00 per hour? Myabe you should just find a new market to work at.

Unfortunately there are no sure-fire "get-rich-quick" schemes or else everyone would do it. Consider MLM...why do you see so many informercials for this crap? If making money is so easy why doesn't the owner of the idea just hire his own folks and pocket the profits? (Hint: They make money by getting suckers to buy their propaganda, not by their actual business)

Unless you're Bill Gates or Tiger Woods, I would advise you to work hard at a "real" job and enjoy your youth. Heck, I kinda miss the crap-mo-bile I drove when I was 17.

if you find a way...tell us cause I'm sure we all would like to do the same~!

several thousand...
no time...
haha
dude....if you're really as smart as you say...c'mon...get real...

As for decent money but minimal time, I think tutoring is the best...
especially if you're smart...(with good standardized scores to prove it, or #1 rank at...not just any highschool, but if you're from nyc...like stuy....)
Anyways..I made like 20 bucks an hour tutoring kids (you can easily do like 25, but them being my parents friends...my mom arranged it so that it was cheaper)...like elementary and junior high kids....
no time investment...
no going through kaplan or princeton review where they take out so much money and you end up with like 15 or something..

I had like 7 or 8 kids..
20*7 = 140 a week...(let's make it 150 to make it easier to figure out)
150*4 = 600... not bad for a high school kid...
I just spend like 2/3 afternoons and a couple hours on saturday...
pretty sweet deal i thought.

oh, and if you're exceptionally good at musical instruments and have like julliard/presidential awards to prove it...there's a whole lotta $$ to be made there...

In all honesty, an MLM program can work for you and make you lots of money. Of course this is if and ONLY if you get in on the ground level. There are some drawbacks with being affiliated with MLM programs. You look at everyone as a prospect instead of them becoming your friend, you lose friends or friends will avoid you, and your new circle of friends consist of the people in the MLM. This is from my personal observation. It can work... There is a 20 year old girl who dropped out of UCLA because she was so successful with an MLM and was driving around a Ferrari. Your mileage may vary.

So you're a programmer? All you have to do is write the next Linux, or Napster, or Winamp, or PGP, or DeCSS, or whatever the "next big thing" will be.

Coding it will be the easy part, coming up with the idea will be hard.

I am interested in a repeatable method for making several thousand a month with minimal time requirement

Sorry, in order to make "several thousand a month", you need to do one of the following:

1. Work hard
2. Have a great new idea
3. Lie, cheat and steal

There is no way you are going to do it using someone else's plan.

Hmm, you want to make several thousand a month, you're 17 and living in NYC. Well, unless it's illicit, or super risky(a la MLM), you're out of luck. Think of it this way: How many other, more qualified people are currently living in NYC and are out of a job? Put yourself in the position of the company doing the hiring? Would you hire a 17 year old that says he's good? Or a 30 year old you know is good? It's a shame that that's how the world works, but there's not much you can do except keep saving the cash you are making, and start playing the lottery.

hmmmm....let's see:
i'm a college graduate. i would love to have a job that didn't take much time at all and yet paid me several thousand dollars a month. but guess what? those jobs don't exist. end of story.
unless you're lucky enough to be born into money, there really isn't a painless way for a smart highschool kid to make several thousand dollars a month. otherewise, we all would be doing it.

unless u were a Toys R Us Kid :)

i know what u can do...u can get a great idea for a show and maybe start it somewhere and maybe some channel will want u on their station and maybe everyone'll watch and maybe u'll make a lotta money maybe.....

but for now u shuld just go and find a completely stupid job...and secretly mess with people...such as if u work at a supermarket and someone else is supposed to be wiping the floors and such and then pour water all over the floor and don't put a 'Wet Floor' sign on the floor :D boy would that be funny to watch hahaha

thank you for your reply
You were helpful and honest. I am going to take your advice and attempt to find people to tutor. I am probably the best student at various subjects, and could easly find people. I hadn't realized that tutoring could be soo lucrative. The only problem is the competition from the National Honor society tutors, which are free. i hope to distinguish myself with at home service. If anybody aelse has similar ideas I would appreciate them as well.
thanks, this seems like a job that is perfect for me, when you teach people something, you tend to become much better with the material as well.
-thanks

i know this doesn't really fit your requirements, but have you thought about being a waiter?

when i was in high school i used to work maybe 2 nights a week, and one day on the weekend and i was making about $275 a week. i was loaded then! seriously, in about 6 months you could save about 6 or 7 grand, and that is more then enough to get a pimp mobile.

My friend did this through college. She worked 3 nights a week and would clear $150 a night on a bad night and up to $400 if she had an awesome night. Perfect way to pay rent and the bills if you don't mind being on your feet all day and having to put up with people.

The only way to make some real money is to start your own business. Then you have to work at it so hard as to exclude everything else in yuor life. You have to have a good idea, work hard, and work for yourself.

Being a Tutor meets those requirements. You are working for yourself and if you work hard at it you can make some money.
How will you expand on it? Will it be a short term thing? Or will you work it into a service that arranges tutoring with other instructors? It's all about how hard you want to work to get the things you want.

I've found that the things I want can't be bought. Family and friends are far more valuable than any material possessions.

Grimm, you have made many "quote-worthy" statements in these forums, but the above, in my opinion, is your finest! :thumb:

Yeah, tutoring seems like your best bet, anything like that, i.e. private lessons on an instrument and such can bring in money really quick if you have the patience to deal with people/kids less competent than yourself.

yep it really does pay well teaching instruments......my piano teacher costs $20 for 30 min so between me and my sister thats $40 in one hour....and it's only once a week...then my piano teacher also teaches Theory at $10 an hour...she has like 15-20 students in the theory stuff which is like $150-200 in only one hour which is really good....and with all those students etc.

but u hafta be a really good teacher at it...and u hafta let them go to contests and things that will let them go up levels such as Certificate of Merit...if u don't then it's just a waste of time for them and u probably won't get many students :)

just my advice for teaching instruments but mostly piano :)
and if u live in dorms i suggest u go to their houses...u never know they might give u free drinks :D
