Who is your wireless phone provider?

I got Sprint PCS and I love it. My phone works just about everywhere and the quality is better than other providers I have heard.

I used and loved Verizon Wireless. It's generally known as the best wireless service in Northern Cali. Its reception is quite outstanding, while Sprint literally "sucks jagged rocks" in this area. However, Sprint seems to be the way to go over on the east coast. Everything depends on where you live. So everybody make sure you mention where you live.

I live in a rural area, so our choices for wireless are limited. Until the end of last year, all we had were two providers - one digital, one analog, and the digital coverage really sucked.

In December, Sprint moved in, so we signed up. I can't believe what a huge difference in quality it is. The calls really are clear, I can finally get a signal at my house, and I get way more minutes for less money than the other local companies.

I've heard that Sprint has a problem with overloading their network, but we have a population of only 40,000 so I'm sure that won't happen here.

i live in the Detroit, MI, area and i have Sprint PCS. in general, i like them ok. i travel a lot for work so the nationwide coverage w/out roaming is very nice. their biggest problem is that they are only effective in major population centers and near freeways; otherwise you are going to be stuck on analog roaming, @ 75 cents/minute (40 cents/minute roaming + 35 cents/minute roaming long distance). when i was out west this summer (yellowstone, grand canyon, etc), i was roaming basically the whole time, and ran up like $200 of roaming charges (fortunately, i could charge it all in to work).
Sprint's CS is also a complete pain in the ass.
but overall, i think they're a good value for the $

We've got Einstein PCS (Airadigm) here.

Quality is great, but the range is pretty limited. But it's Wisconsin, so there are lots of rural areas. Kinda gotta expect limited coverage.

But for $39 a month you can get unlimited minutes. No worries about nights/weekends, or counting minutes, or anything like that. In-state long distance is free (a biggie for my wife).

We like it so much, we whacked the land line phone, and only use the cell phone now. Saves me a ton of cash every month.

i have ATT and it works everywhere...including my rural hometown (where my folks live). my gf has sprint...and there are 2 places it doesn't work...the desert and my old hometown...

i thought that was kinda funny...

anyone know what providers will be available for the handspring treo? i'm buying one the day it comes out, but i shudder to think i'll have voicestream or some other crappy service...

I've used Verizon wireless for the past several years and been very happy with them so far.

Using Nextel right now. It works just about everywhere (except my place). But had the same problem with Verizon and Sprint so I think there just aren't enough places to build a tower around my area or something.

Anyway, I like Nextel just fine. I get reception in areas that my Sprint phone can't. Sprint uses a private network so their coverage is much more limited. I believe Nextel is also private, but they have a larger network. While all the other fellas share their network, which leads to those "system is busy" messages.

I have Sprint and I'm in DC metro area. It's been really good to me. I killed my land line since no once called me and it was costing me $20/month. I usually travel to major areas and I can make calls...receiving calls I mostly get. I don't think I had a problem when I went to San Fran. yes Sprint CS sucks big time...it's tough to talk to someone with a pulse...sigh.

My gf has Voicestream and it sucks to hell. Mostly with billing customer service. She sends her payments but they don't 'log' it so they cut off her service, then turn it on when she calls, then turn it off b/c they still didn't enter her payment, then double bill her, then fix that, but they don't credit her but let the payment carry over but that goes over what she has in the bank or over the daily withdrawl limit when she buys other stuff that day and so both payments don't go thru and they cut her off again even though she set asides money specifically to cover the cell phone bill. It's happened at least 3 times.

I got her on to ATT b/c they have 400 minutes and Unlimited off peak which is after 8pm for $50 on the Regional Plan. She likes it much better but the sound quality is good but in and out when she calls me at my work phone.

Cricket is cool for those who have access to the service. They mainly service more rural areas. You can't beat unlimited service for a low flat rate of around $30. The price varies by region.

I used to work for sprint CS. Let me tell ya how it is. We were not directly working for Sprint, it was a big warehouse full of college kids answering phones, a telemarketing company that they contracted. We got 2 weeks of training on how to answer the phones and work the computer. Anything we learned about Sprint and the service and equipment, we learned as we went. No wonder the CS stinks! I don't work there anymore, and I DON"T use Sprint wireless. :D

A lot of companies do that. UPS did that through MicroAge for a long time. When MicroAge went belly up, UPS formed a new company, UPS Teleservices, and bought out MicroAge Teleservices. If they hadn't they would have lost over 70% of their tech support agents.

They gave everyone raises after I left. But still they are all underpaid from what I hear from friends.

In San Diego you have a choice; Verizon OR suckage. Most people I know move to Verizon after their first contract with someone else. Verizon usualy keeps their customers. Verizon is a little more expensive, but it is a case of getting what you pay for.

Seems a bunch of US guys are responding, so I might as well give a Canadian (err.... Calgary) perspective.

I use Telus Mobility (formerly Clearnet), and I've had mixed service since the transition... my once very reliable SCP-4000 now encounters a few areas in the city with reduced coverage (to the point of some dropped calls near my place), and very busy lines (esp. on weekends).

Still, considering they offer the best prepaid plan in Calgary (you can get free evenings/weekends on their prepaid service), I'll stick with them.

Just FYI, Telus would be related to Sprint PCS as they use the same technology. I'll go over a few of the other carriers as well. Rogers = AT&T, Fido or Microcell = Cingular GSM or Voicestream, Telus Mike = Nextel, Bell Mobility = Verizon.

I'm up in North Chicago. I have Verizon. It gets great reception everywhere except my apartment and my school. Since I spend 99.99% of my time in both of these two places combined, it sucks. It really sucks considering that I got it in lieu of an actual landline (because it's cheaper).

I find that in NYC and Northern NJ, Verizon blows the doors off the service I had with AT&T. I could never get AT&T to connect.

I love Sprint PCS. I get coverage where other people don't in the LA area. Plus when I went to Las Vegas for New Years during the millennium I was able to get calls out at midnight while my friends using verison, att, & cingular couldn't. :D

I also use nextel and haven't run into any problems yet. The neat thing about nextel service is the two way radio feature in their phones. Comes in handy at work since we all use nextel and because the radio minutes are unlimited it saves quit a bit of money.
