ok, i'm not trying to step on anybody's feet right now, but the whole grammer police and hrb thing is getting to be really annoying. so all i'm asking is that you refrain from letting the entire community know that the same thing was posted 6 months ago for just one week. and then you can go all go back to being post nazis.

can we do that, please?

OK, no more repost nazis.
From now on all repetive posts will be the responsability of the "Duplicate Post Police". The DPP is a more caring and responsive group wanting to protect the comunity from the threat of repetative postings.
We are only here to make you safe.

the whole idea that someone is going to police your thread for reposted info is insane.

obviously the person didn't see it the first time, and the likelihood that another person had missed it as well is quite high. and nobody is going to do a search everytime they want to post soemthing just to make sure it isn't a repost. so for the 4 or 5 people who read every single thread and then have a fantastic memory for details, maybe you should think before you hrp a thread that others may not have seen it yet as well, and might enjoy it before you crap on it.

hey now, grammar is one thing; funny typos are funny typos and should be allowed.

Not only is she the Nazi Nazi she is also a Spelling Nazi.

Where did I claim to be hyper-observant? I just object to others controlling my behavior.

I disagree. IF it was a typo, the it IS rather amusing, in a sick, dark, Cable Guy kind of way.

I just don't think it was.

Wait, after this haitus, can we atleast do a little Policing?

This is my reasoning. If we can stick to only the most egregious spelling and grammar mistakes, would that be alright? I just hate trying to decipher something that makes almost no sense.

And as for the Reposting, I have a problem when the reposts are on the same page, only 1 or 2 spots from each other. I know what you're saying about some people missing something, but when it is right next to another post on the same subject, that's pretty bad.

I always have and always will, however, point out when something is being reposted. This is not meant to ridicule the poster; it is only meant to inform them of an earlier post on the same subject matter. That way, especially if it is a question, they have the ability to see more responses. In my experience, people ususally don't respond to the same topic twice.

Well if it wasnt a question, then leave them alone. Telling them it was a repost doesnt help at all.

It it was a question, then direct them to the post if you are trying to be so "helpful".

This just reminded my of the old time Pinkertons. When strike's first started, companies would hire the Pinkertons in large numbers. They would just go and slaughter the strikers.

:D

Not sure how it applies here, just felt i needed to share the knowledge:angel: .

my thoughts on repost nazis/grammar nazis/spelling nazis/typo nazis/nazi nazis/etc:

1.) As someone pointed out yesterday, if we all make an effort to give informative titles to our posts, people will probably be more likely to know when something was already posted and avoid reposting

2.) If it's been six months since something was posted, a HRB response is probably unnecessary. Most of us probably haven't seen it or have forgotten it. On the other hand, if someone's posting a joke or "funny link" that's already been posted 5 times in the last few months, a HRB is probably appropriate. It's the same thing as telling someone "yeah, i've heard that joke a thousand times. enough already"

3.) As Lagodaboy pointed out, if a repost concerns some sort of question or "discussion topic", linking to previous posts is, in my opinion, not only appropriate but also very helpful. It can save people having to repeat themselves and it helps some of us who haven't been here so long to see what people have said in the past.

4.) One reason to point out reposts is that when people repost things that have been posted fairly recently, it wastes people's time. Especially when you're connected over dialup, it can easily take a minute to access a thread, realize it's a repost, and hit the back button to return to the main page. If I'm going to spend my time here, I'd rather it be productive, and not wasted by redundant posts.

5.) Most of the grammar/spelling/typo postings are attempts at humor. Some people may not think they're funny. But it's basically the same thing as when someone says something that is open to "another" meaning and everyone makes jokes about that. Not everyone finds the same type of humor funny, but for those of us who are relatively attentive to spelling/grammar issues, many typos are pretty funny. So if someone highlights them, we find it pretty humorous. The intent is not rude (or at least, it's not any more rude than most of the humor that is exchanged here).

I guess my primary point is to just take stuff in stride and let's all enjoy ourselves. Respect other people, they'll probably respect you (some people are beyond help, but I won't mention names), and have fun.

P.S. - If anyone wants to start a new class of nazis, they can have Capitalization Nazis whose job is to rip apart every post i make, since i rarely use capital letters. go for it. i'd actually think it was pretty funny :D

i would like to tell you what i think, but it isn't really appropriate.

and, btw, you are the only person i've ever said anything about capitalization to. and it was to prove a point. and also, why are you even taking this thing so personally???? nobody here has pointed fingers at anyone, so your whole big long spiel about redirecting people as a service once is totally unnecessary. i didn't accuse you of anything.

too bad i can't say the same about you not accusing me of being a nazi nazi. which was just about the most brilliant thing i'd ever read.
