I have gotten to the point where I hate most kinds of advertising. Popup ads, stupid radio spots, TV commercials that yell at you (But wait! There's more!), etc...

I see it this way - Imagine walking into a room full of people that all want to sell you something. Each is selling something different, and you only have so much money. As soon as you tell one "no" another takes his place. They all want your money, and it is in the best interest of each of them to skew the truth in their favor in order to get your money. How long would this be fun? Not very long.

We see so damn many ads in the course of a single day that it is like being in that room. Sometimes it makes me want to scream.

If I need something, I'll look into it and go buy it. Approaching me and trying to get my money is not going to work, so leave me the hell alone.

Anyone else feel this way?

Welp . . . would you rather pay for all the things advertising pays for? Legitimate advertising is a relatively minor intrusion relative to what it provides for you. Spam can suck my butt though.

the answer is simple...

tunnel vision and/or blinders

i don't pay much attention to anything. or rather, i'm so into advertising and most advertising sucks ass so its easy to ignor. but when something is done exceptionally well, it actually stimulates me. not necessarily to buy the item, but i think 'gee, that is a totally unique and cool idea from a design standpoint.'

but i agree, it is very hard to think on your own when the media does all it can to brainwash you.

I have a lot of meetings with the marketing types in my company, and they are a scary breed. All kinds of "trickery", and emphasis on "how it makes the customer feeeeel"..... Just think, there is a huge industry out there right now that does nothing but thing of new wasys to skew your thinking

Oh, cool thing in Texas since Jan. 1 - we have a list you can sign up for to put yourself on a list to not recieve telemarketing calls - I am so psyched! Last week I worked from home one morning and received 7 phone calls before noon. And the automated calls make me want to blow up the phone. Now THAT oughta be illegal.

I especially hate pop-ups, but love the "Pop-up Killer" it makes that zapping sound when it kills an ad
