What are you planning for your sweetie?
I'm thinking a snowboard and lessons, and a stay at a mountain condo.

Well... I was going to send flowers, but hearing what you're giving your sig. other (and what you've given him in the past), I've come to 2 conclusions:
1) I've got to get my GF something better than just flowers
2) I've got to start hitting on you. :P

Because I love him, and I don't want to hear anymore whining, I am going to get him a lite on 32 ( I think that is the one he is wanting this week) cdrw.

James, I'm going to beat you down. If Rebeccah saw this, you wouldn't have any chance with her.

my GF and i whole-heartedly agree that V-day is just stupid. we don't need a day to tell us to be romantic or to go out and have a good time and give gifts. we both give each other gifts at random and leave each other cards without having Feb. 14th to prompt us. Valentines day has become a mini0-Christmas to us in that it is all about consumerism.
I'm not slamming other folks who want to get romantic on Feb. 14th b/c that's a good thing (just as it is good on any other day of the year). the thing that bugs me is when friends, co-workers, or whoever ask me or my GF "what are you guys doing for V-day" or "what did he/she get you for V-day?" i tell them my/our thoughts on v-day and i usually get strange looks and/or statements back. this may not apply to the singles here, but i often find it is the single people who are most perturbed by us not giving a hoot about v-day. whatever. that's my valentine's day rant...

in any case, i say forget the snowboard and lessons and just have the stay in the mountain condo. snowboarding makes your body sore and that might preclude other weekend activities... make sure there's lots of beer and champagne present and a nice warm fire place. the weekend will take it's course, if you know what i mean...:naughty:

Unfortunately, V-day falls too close to Chinese New year, so my GF will be away... :bawl:
I'm probably going to have to set another time to visit her, but I'm with you Brew... it's not when you spend time with your sig. other, it's how much time you get to spend with him/her.

I said "planning" for this very reason. You don't have to spend a penny to show someone they are special. Not all of us expect lavish gifts. :)

Chick and I are spending out first v-day together by going to 2 concerts and spending the weekend in Philly @ Loews. It's the old PSFS building for the locals that know what I'm talking about.
As for the deal (always make with the deal) I got on the room...2 nights for the price of 1. Philly's running a promotion to get people into town. IF you're planning on coming into town, you might want to check it out. Most of the major Center City hotels are doing it, and you can't beat some of the prices.

But it is still a made up HallMark holiday Nah, that would be Sweetest Day. Talk about your all-time made-up Hallmark holiday.
Hallmark Executive #1: "Gee, let's see, there seems to be a big gap in the holidays between Labor Day and Halloween. We need to come up with something new!"
Hallmark Executive #2: "How 'bout Leaf Day?"
Hallmark Executive #3: "That's too cheezy! mmmmmm, what about Cheese Day?"
Hallmark Executive #1: "We need something more sensitive than that, to show that we care... something sweeter than cheese."
Hallmark Executive #3: "What could be sweeter than cheese?"
Hallmark Executive #1: "Well, what is the sweetest thing you can think of?"
Hallmark Executive #2: "The sweetest thing I can think of... hmmmm... That's it! Sweetest Day!"
Hallmark Executive #3: "Sweetest Day? What the heck does that mean?"
Hallmark Executive #2: "Well, it should be the sweetest day of the year, so it could be just like Valentine's Day, only 5 months earlier!"
Hallmark Executive #1: "I like it! Sweetest Day it is! I'll tell manufacturing to produce everything they normal make for Valentine's Day, but they'll need to change the templates to 'Happy Sweetest Day'."
Hallmark Executive #2: "I'll send letters to all of the high schools in the country to tell them that they should have Sweetest Day flower sales as well. What is more fun than receiving a flower from your secret admirer?"
Hallmark Executive #3: "I'll tell you what's more fun than that! Getting cheese from them!"
Hallmark Executive #1: "Oh brother..."
Anyway, Valentine's Day is a legitimate holiday because there is at least a story or two to back it up, such as Cupid and his arrow. Also, you can't beat those Be Mine candies that are always floating around near Valentine's Day. :munch:

i don't know, i've always liked Valentine's Day (since i got a GF, that is :) ). sure, it's kind of cheesy, but as long as you don't limit displays of affection to that ONE day, it's fine. you can just do fun stuff and it's the only day of the year when the rest of the world isn't sickened by lots of displays of affection.
