I'm thinking about getting a head up display in my 2001 honda prelude. Did any of you out there install one of these bad boys in your ride? If you don't know what a head up display is, it's a device that projects your car info (speed, tach, radio station) onto the windshield. I'd like to know how much, where you gout it and did you install it yourself. ANy info would be appreciated. Much obliged.

wow. i never even knew they had this kinda stuff. did you search online for it yet? did you visit your local auto supply store or after-market retailer? that would be my best guess.

I've heard of a few car manufacturers installing them, but I don't know anyone that's installed one on their own. I think that they are a little pricey, but they are really good for keeping your eyes on the road.

If you learn anything, let us know.

I've seen an Audi S4 with a nice aftermarket one. Looks very good.

Do you know where the guy got it for his car and how much it cost? I know a lot of cars nowadays can have it factory installed (ie corvette, grand prix, a some gm minivans).

The only aftermarket HUD that I found is made by this Japanese company call Defi-link. I think they're big manufacturer for gauges and what nots. Well the units that they sell is about the size of a beeper and you place it on the dashboard and you connect some wire from the unit to the ecu of your car. It goes for about $150-$170. Here's the site you guys are interested.

The unit is called the VSD II.

For a project in school last year, GM gave us a mini-van and we installed a HUD on it. I totally forget where we got it from...:-/
but yeah....

here's one for your radio

Also, the GM people that came demo'ed the Corvette's optional HUD that you can get on them. Might as well go to a chevy dealership and just ask about it.
GM also has had a speed and signal hud in their cars since the mid 90's.
For our project, we ended up using the HUD attached to a computer and giving off directions - using voice recognition software & gps to guide them...kinda crazy.

So much awesome technology wasted on a minivan.
