I go every once in a while. I bought a gun last semester cause I was always bored during the weekends, figured it'd give me something to do. Been about 5 times since I got it. Pretty fun. I always end up with a few bruises. What sucks is playing against the guys with thousand dollar guns. They just put it on full auto and pin you behind bunkers.

I played L.A. Machineguns @ gameworks in Vegas. The gun recoil gave me a blister on my hand...

now just find a way to relate this to paintballing...

i wanna go painballing...

i've never been to a real place, just shot a friends painball gun at his house. it looks like fun. i've even seen competitions on ESPN with these crazy forest set ups. damn it looks like some good fun!

If you go, it's funner to get a lot of people you know. Seriously, like I said, there are some people who hang out at the paintball fields all the time with no life. They love to spend money on their guns like crazy and buy a couple hundred dollars worth of paintballs. You shoot 200 rounds through the brush in the woods and one eventually makes it through. Some consider it a "challenge" but personally, I think it ruins it.

You should go to the one I go to. They don't allow full auto. ;)

I have been like 3 times, but not for awhile.

I used to play on a team but I had to quit when I had my 2nd knee surgery (and couldn't run for 9 months). I still go every so often around L.A. - there's a large number of fields around the L.A. area and believe it or not several of them don't suck! The only times I go these days are with a couple of different groups of people for private games. I refuse to go walk-on anymore because of the relatively low level of sportsmanship (I got hit by someone shooting over 330 fps at close range with an autococker - broke the skin pretty bad and I had to leave to get it treated correctly)

I still have 5 guns that I use - my bushmaster (can go full auto but no field will allow it), 2 Tippmans (1 - model 98 and a 68 carbine - both heavily modified), and two semi-auto pistols (for max payne-style close quarters shooting).

If anyone in the L.A. area is interested, the next time I go out with my friends (mind you they are all pretty good players) I can post the day/time/place info.

paintballing is a blast. i agree; go with friends, because there are a ton of people out there who take that stuff WAY too seriously.
i actually think the ideal thing is that if you have a group of people who all have guns and goggles and someone who has a woods where you can go play, do your own games. when you pay to play a private game at some paintball field somewhere, they just want to get you in and out of there as quickly as possible (at least, that's my experience). playing on your own, you can set your own rules and play for as long as you want.

I've always had the most fun in a heavily wooded area, with 4-5 people on a side, and no one else playing in the same area.

That gives you enough people for some basic tactics, but not so many people that there's no room to sneak around and maneuver.

There's no better feeling than sneaking up behind three people laying prone in cover, expecting to ambush you, and then picking them off at close range from behind, a direction they never expected.

Wooded fields are very fun but unfortunately in So. California there aren't very many of them (good ones, anyway).

I find that most of the time I have to put some of my team's colored tape on the back of my mask (behind my head) just because I usually am so far behind the opposing force's line that they will think I'm one of them. Friendly fire can be a real bitch but on the flip side I wholeheartedly agree that there's nothing quite so disturbing to a team as to be hit from behind by someone you didn't know was even there. I have a very quiet and reliable gun that helps me do that very effectively. :D

I also like to work with a group of 4-5 friends of mine and we have a whole set of hand signals and vocal calls so we can commmunicate on the field. When you get a good, tight group that can communicate and use tactics effectively you can really work another team over.

Looks like Kevster could be one of those crazy freaks that spends thousands on markers and just unleash the full auto..

But, he's not. Must be one of them good players that doesnt' want to discourage the newbie starting out with the Nelspot he bought for 40 bucks and ends up getting nailed by someone's Shocker while hiding in the woods.

HOw long have you been playing, Kevster?

Let's just say I go far enough back to remember the Sheridan Pump rifle and the splatmaster.

I aquired my first set of tippmanns (68 carbine, pro-lite, 2 pump rifles and a PGP pistol) about 5 1/2 years ago from a DEA agent who used them for training. I got about another $300 worth of equipment to go along with the package and it all cost me $225. Looking back on it, it was a total steal.

I modified my tippmanns to the point that they really weren't tippmanns any more (different grips, modified trigger assemblies, variable rear spring adjuster, custom rifled sniper barrels, modified piston valve, etc.) and then I got a 98 and modified the hell out of that (I've turned into a pretty good gunsmith). I sold the two pumps and the prolite to help pay for it all and all my other gear then I decided to get a new gun - a bushmaster. The bushmaster is very similar to an angel - they both rock it's just that an angel is 1500 and a good bushmaster combo is about half that. I got mine used for a very nice price from a friend who won it in a tournament.

I used to be on a team for a little while and then I hurt my knee again (in Judo, not paintball) and had to have surgery to correct some things. Since then I have been out several times but I have had other priorities - getting married, buying a house, traveling to Europe and Japan (business), etc so my guns are currently sitting idle. I was supposed to go out with the whole bunch last Saturday but I couldn't because I had to move into my new house.

As for my style of play - if I go through more than 1200 rounds in a whole day I am suprised. I don't spray paint all over the place except to lay cover for someone else. I don't like making headshots - they hurt too much and I hate it like everyone else when I get nailed in the noggin. When I have the option I will always go for a foot or a lower leg - a nice hard surface and they don't hurt as much or bruise as easily. If I have to make a head shot I always aim for the ball to hit the top of the head - not a square on shot to the side. It's still going to break but it's not going to hurt with a top-shot since most of the ball's energy is deflected away from the head. Then you just yell for a ref to check the player and he gets escorted out (if he/she doesn't already yell that they're hit).

I have had people complain about my gun because they got hit and think I was shooting too hot (I have a 16" - 18" homemade rifled barrel for each of my guns that allow me to shoot VERY accurately and quietly from a long distance) - I gladly let them test it and every time they find out I'm shooting around 260 fps - the optimum speed for my barrel and well below the field speed limit. They just got mad because they spent $1000's on their "invincible" gun and they got nailed by an older, much cheaper gun. My friends and I usually have a good laugh when they whine about it :D

I usually play at Tombstone or SC Village - I used to go to 'Fury all the time until he lost his lease for half the property. I also used to play a LOT of indoor and got pretty good at close-quarters tactics 'til the owner gave it up and went back to selling motorcycles.

Sorry for the long post, but there's a lot that can be said on this topic.

Why is it that people appologize for a long post? They put a lot of effort in to informing others then apologize for it?
I can see doing it for a long cut and paste, but not for something you wrote.

WHoa! A SET of tippmans for 225? I think the DEA guy got ripped off, or really really wanted to get rid of 'em. I'd jump on that if I ever got offered that. Personally, I haven't ever BEEN paintballing but have a lot of friends who do go and the sport just interests me in general, which caused me to visit www.warpig.com quite often for a period,

Yeah - he had them advertised in the South Bay recycler and I jumped on it. I got viewloaders, masks, gun cases, 5 CO2 cylinders (I have since switched to air), a gun speed checker, a bunch of CO2 cartidges for the PGP and a bunch of spare tubes for ammo.

It was essentially a tax deduction for him because he used them for training - he wanted to get rid of them and I had cash.

I'd actually like to go paintballing, but I don't know if I could get out of the mode of carrying a real gun. I've never shot a paintball gun, but I'm sure they fire differently from a real gun and less accurately too.

The thing is, I live in the perfect area to go paint balling: huge forests and ranches everywhere. I just don't have any friends around here that do paintball. Well, I have a few, but they are too busy shooting at the Sheriff's 4x4. :heh:

Anyway, I think I might like to go, when I find some people to go with, but it isn't worth investing in the gear if I'm never going to use it. :(

the first time i played - i was aiming at somone just barely hidden by a ridge.

the paintball rose up ove him and hit the judge squarely in the nutz standing 50 feet further back.

you heard the thwack - the grabbed his package and immediately dropped to the ground. he was ok - no damage done - so we could all laff about it.

My school is organizing some sort of paintball event, and I want in. Do you know where I can get good deals on buying a paintball gun and cheap ammo (websites or stores?) I dunno how much they usually cost, but I can work with around $150....(just for the gun), and extra for the ammo.

Thanks in advance

i'm sure it varies from place to place, but where i've been, you could use your own ammo if you brought your own gun. however, if you rented one of theirs, you had to buy their ammo.

Psycho Ballistics Drop Forward with ASA
Macroline kit with 2 90* elbows
Red/Green (both in one) dot sight - yes it works, because my gun has powerfeed and not vertical feed

Reason why I bought the Pirahna. Spyder and Pirahna parts are basically interchangeable. No electronics. Not a lot of moving parts. Spend more time playing than fixing your gun, like some people.

you got that right brotha :)

Man that quick strip pin on my spyder saves me so much time, i can take the whole thing appart in about 30 seconds :)

I want to buy a velocity adjuster though, because it's a pain to do it all the time with an allen wrench

ANd it can withstand anything, dirt, grime (although i don't get any in there) but it can :)
