This all started to occur after I upgraded my plextor 1210A firmware from 1.08 to 1.09. I removed the drive and it boots fine.

Later, I decided to install my pioneer dvd-115 in the computer, and the computer also will not boot with this drive installed.

Each time the computer (win2k server) gives and error regarding CDFS_FILE_SYSTEM and something about cdfs.sys.

Can someone send me their cdfs.sys file to see if maybe this file is causing problems?

Does the problem affect both IDE channels? Could you put the plextor on the 1st channel as a slave and get it to work. Heck, it might even work in slave mode on the 2nd channel. the firmware shouldn't have hosed up the IDE channel like that....but the cable might have gone bad, that's another thing to test. jumping the CMOS might be a good idea as well.

I had a similar problem with booting from a DVD drive. I had two hard drives, a TDK 24X10X40 CDRW, and a Toshiba 12X DVD. When I put the DVD drive as the slave on the primary channel, the computer wouldn't boot from it. When I put the CDRW as the slave, everything worked. I have no idea why this was happening. I did notice it was at the BIOS level, because the DVD drive wouldn't show up as a slave on the primary channel. After trying different jumper settings for a while, I decided to just put the CDRW as the slave on the primary IDE channel. The DVD drive would show up as a master or slave on the secondary channel, depending on the jumper setting.

When you updated the BIOS on your Plextor, how did you do it? Did you use a Win98 boot disk? When I updated my Iomega 12X10X32 to a Plextor BIOS, I used a boot disk and everything worked. I've also updated my Toshiba's BIOS so that it's region free, and it worked.

Someone how cdfs.sys and udfs.sys werent loading at startup, consequently this caused serious problems.

I fixed this by doing the following:

Went to www.feurio.com and downloaded feurio, the audio burning software. From within there, I enabled cdfs.sys and udfs.sys to load automatically.
