i was hoping not to add fuel to the fire, but i guess it didn't work.
and i also had higher expectations from the people here, i guess i shouldn't give everyone so much credit.

actually, i'm getting pretty tired of al the "holy repost posts" too.... give it a break guys - for a while its ok, or if its like within the say few days that theres a repost, well, ok. but from 4 weeks, or 2 months ago? YIKES.
The repost posting is getting more annoying than the reposts, and its not like it actually removes the repost or anything....

Interesting... :spock:
BTW, I guess both sides are "annoyed" over this issue. Personally, I don't like seeing the same thing over and over in a short period of time. I can let the "long term" stuff slide, but the short stuff is just aggravating.
And anyone who says... "well just ignore it"... well, lets just say that any reposts just push relevant new posts down the page and onto page 2 as well as makes for a harder time for the dial-up folks (my experience in Florida really re-opened my eyes as to their plight... being back on 56K for 2 weeks) who have to wait for stuff to load up only to find that it is a "rerun".
Both sides need to be concientious of the other.
no he's not saying that they should be removed by a "higher power." he's saying that calling out a repost does no good.
as far as "relevant" posts being pushed down, it would take a damn lot of reposts to push something relevant off the first page. usually reposts come one or two at a time, so everything that "should" be on the first page really does stay on the first page.
it was funny for a while, i know i enjoyed it, but everything must pass, as must the "HRB."
Things probably WONT change. Look at it this way, someone asked to stop the repost crap and what did people do? One person says it jokingly after reading the post and adds a smiley and the whole thing starts all over again.

My thinking is that if an issue has already been discussed, a pointer to the previous thread can avoid unnecessary repetition. It doesn't necessarily mean that the new thread need to be squelched, but a review of what has already been said wouldn't hurt.
I think what makes a big difference is the "tone" that the "repost alert" takes.

Why is it that ANY link to another G|A thread is taken as an accusation of reposting?
I try to support my argument with a reference and suddenly I am a Repost Nazi! Arguments should be supported with facts; it's how it is done. But no, since I have the audacity to point out a two month old thread that supports my argument and happens to be related to the subject, I am a nazi.
Hey, I am one of the people who think drudging up a months old post and calling the current thread a repost is ridiculous! Conversely I think posting on the same subject while the original post is on the top page is deserving of ridicule (exception: when they are posted within a few minutes of each other). I read a whole lot more than I post. If you have something to say, say it, but after you find out what others have said about it.
So when the Nazi Nazis start throwing around accusations of being a Repost/Typo/Grammar/Whatever Nazi, Why should I even listen? They are the fastest to jump the gun!

Yeah you give us too much credit ;) I'm kidding. I think that the repost police has been kind of harsh as of late. (sure I did a "HRB" last week, but that's cuz the original post was on the same page and no one bother to look at it)
I do have to say that picking on minor spelling errors (and being serious about it) is a bit lame. I don't think anyone comes here to be corrected on their minor spelling error. Although, I do find certain people mispelling things purposely, now that's just stupid. Oh well, I guess the best thing is to ignore it.
