Well I saw this movie Friday night. All I have to say is, Oh My God.

The movie was extremely "real" as in, this is what war is really like. You will get into the mind of the soliders. You will feel an entire range of emotions.

I will be entirely honest. I remember this incident. My brother had just gotten out of the Army. There is one scene in the movie where I almost broke the handles on my seat. I was enraged. ( for those who remember, it was the pilot and what the "skinnies" did to that body...)

I almost cried at two parts...

And just to let you know... this is essentially what lead to the WTC attack... the main man in this movie, the warlord... was funded by a Mister Osama Bin Laden....

Excellent movie, I recommend seeing this...

Its good Ridley Scott snipped the bs lecture at the end of the film that the US's foreign policy led to 9/11.

Somalis cheer at 'Black Hawk Down' screening (http://www.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/africa/01/22/blackhawk.screening/index.html)

MOGADISHU, Somalia (CNN) -- Somalis watching a bootleg video of "Black Hawk Down" on Monday cheered as helicopters crashed and U.S. servicemen were killed in the new movie.

Just days after the film's widespread release in the United States, hundreds of Somalis crowded into an outdoor playground Monday to watch one of the first bootleg copies to reach Somalia.

The film, which was No. 1 at the U.S. box office over the weekend, depicts the ill-fated 1993 Battle of Mogadishu in which 18 American soldiers were killed.

The United States was in Somalia to try to capture powerful Somali warlord Mohammed Aidid from his stronghold in the war-torn capital and take him to a ship anchored off the nearby coast. But by the end of the 16-hour battle in which commandos tried to seize several of Aidid's top lieutenants, 18 elite Army Rangers and hundreds of Somalis lay dead in the streets of Mogadishu.

At the screening, Somalis paid the equivalent of 10 U.S. cents to watch the movie, less than a mile from where a real Black Hawk helicopter went down.

Audience members seemed to take delight in scenes of U.S. defeat. Each time an American chopper went down in the film, the audience cheered. Every time an American serviceman was killed, the audience cheered some more.

Ahmed Abdullah said he witnessed the actual battle and saw the movie as more fiction than fact.

"It's not fair what the U.S. is trying to do," he said. "What I saw that day was different from what I see in the film today. It's not accurate."

Others said the movie brings back disturbing memories of a day they'll never forget.

"I felt very sad watching the film," one woman said.

Some in the audience said they were proud of the way Somalis were portrayed in the film. They said they believe they were defending their country and their pride against what they considered U.S. military aggression.

U.S. officials have said they are concerned that members of al Qaeda, the terrorist network led by Osama bin Laden, could try to regroup in Somalia so the country may be a possible next target in the war on terrorism.

But some audience members had a warning for the United States.

"As you can see, Somalis are brave fighters," one man said. "If the Americans come back to fight us, we shall defeat them again."

Said another, "Let them try again. They'll be making more films about us when we defeat them like we did that day."

Sure they'll be cheering after getting another ass whooping. :dodgy:

They don't seem to realize that if we fight them again, it will all be done with airstrikes. Go straight to jail, do not pass Go, do not collect $200...

i agree very good movie...it was a very serioous strong movie, with a few chuckles in between to help relieve some tension.

If we go to Somalia again, doubt this will happen again, US leastrned from mistake of fighting within confined spaces, without proper weapons/heavy armor for support.

Good point. Come to think of it, there probably won't be a need to send them to jail either.

I saw it last friday, it was really good. And I cried in alot of parts. I dunno, I just think it's sad that things like this actually can and did happen in the world and it's not just some made up story.

yeah, deltas are dope. but i sometimes wonder if the reason they're so good is because they're a bit psychotic. i'm sure they're screened beforehand for any mental problems but still...

but i read somewhere that they're real friendly guys...or so they make you believe. :shifty:

Whenever I seen delta they were always riding around in motorcycles with shotguns on the side. They didn't seem to friendly to me. I did get to see them go into the underground bunker which was cool in a james bondesque way.

i'm almost surprised this movie didn't have to fight for the R rating. I know saving private ryan was originally going to be nc-17 and this was far more graphic than that. Bah, hollywood does whatever they want to i guess.

I'm not saying the movie wasn't great, it was, i'm just saying it probably deserves nc-17. Then I guess it wouldn't have been as popular. Ah, who knows.

My friend just got in to see an screening of We were Soldiers... he said that in his opinion, it was more intense than Black Hawk Down. And he loved Black Hawk Down when we went to watch it.

So I can't wait.....
