any here from the dc area...or recently have your @home connection switched to comcast?

the conversion happened today, i still have the same IP, but for some reason port 80 on my machine is no longer viewable...arrrgh!

i don't think it's a problem with my webserver either, localhost works...when i get back home i'm going to mess with some other ports.

anyone else have this problem? i might need a way around it.

Port 80 is used for inbound traffic to a web server.

If blocked has no effect on your ability to visit webpages.

You just can't run a server on that port.

Check out www.no-ip.com for solutions.

thanks for the link!

i actually jumped to conclusions. i heard a while back that @home was going to block webservers from their cable network, and figured once comcast took over they went ahead and did that. however, i must have written this thread just as i was getting a new comcast IP...so i just need to update DNS. i'm worried that comcast will switch my IP (DHCP and all) whereas @home used dhcp, but basically gave everyone a static IP, time will tell. but if that's the case, i'll definitely look into using the free no-ip service.
