Anybody else get this? Mine's on order but there's no mention of a leadtime.
I'm curious if this is just a misprint or something they're actually aware of. You have to admit, $128 shipped :wow: is a hell of a deal.

GeForce4 MX 420. According to the available data, this GeForce4 MX version will be targeted for the Low-End market that is why the cards built on it will have 64MB SDR SDRAM memory working at 166MHz. The core will work at 250MHz. Besides, It looks as if there were only two rendering pipelines in this modification.
Not even DDR... and slow clock
The release date is supposed to be Febuary 5th. Yes and this is the low end of the spectrum of Geforce 4 cards. And actually they do have DDR memory. From ZDnet "MX 420 will use a 250MHz core and 166MHz memory, according to reports. (All use DDR memory, which effectively doubles the memory speed.)" (http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1103-817473.html) And considering that even the cheapest Geforce 3 cards go for at least $150 makes this a great deal. If I hadn't just bought a vid card I might get in on it. Though I'm wondering if this price will hold even after they come out to market?

Where did you see it billed as SDRAM? Everything I have seen regarding the GeForce4 MX420 is DDR. :hmm:

I just ordered mine. Do you think that this low-end geforce 4 will compete with the higher-end geforce3s?

Computers4Sure has also removed the item from their web site.
Maybe it was an error.

I would wager diamonds to dollars that Nvidia dropped the hammer and made all companies remove them(before the official press release). Who would but Geforce3 now, if they can ALREADY buy a spiffy new Geforce4?

There's not much chance the geforce 4 mx can compete with the geforce3 (high quality).
Just to let you know most MX from nvidia is "low-end" for them, so you don't have to ask them about how high end it is.
Also "who will buy a geforce 3 now?", youre going to see geforce5 by next year I bet (could be december 2003 but I didn't say that) - are you going to say "who will buy geforce 4 now?" then? Snatch on things, if you wait - you stand the chance of losing.
The announce date for the GeForce 4 line of videocards is February 5. When you see these cards on the shelves is late February or early March.
"Do you think that this low-end geforce 4 will compete with the higher-end geforce3s?" No.

of waht ive read, the low end 4 will be farther away from the high end 3 than the high 2 to low 3 ti200

no hurry for me to upgrade my video card, i have the geforce2 gts and it fits me nice for now. i think i'll upgrade my cpu instead to an amd 1800+ now that amd is cutting prices.. ($160 now at newegg.com for a retail box).
i'll get more performance out of my machine this way instead of spending $$$$ on a new geforce(X) video card.

sup macro what are your current specs.
i need ot jump on a new video card.
i have a 3dfx voodoo 5 and an amd tbird 1.4ghz with 256 DDR RAM. The thing is I tried a geforce3 (gainward) and coudlnt get used to the colours (had it tweaked too) and it was blurry in windows and in games. I may have to get an ati but it's not pure power like the nvidia cards are....

I’m still back in the day with a TNT2 card. I'm kind of glad they cancelled the order though. I'll just wait a few more weeks a get a mid-range geforce4

mallowjr..
my setup consists of an ecs k75sa motherboard with an athlon 900mhz, 256mb pc133, visiontek geforce2 gts 32mb, monster mx400 sound card, maxtor 30gb 7200rpm, 16x dvd drive and a plextor 12x cdrw.
so for me, an upgrade to an amd 1800 for $160 or an amd 1700 for $132 makes more sense (and cheaper) than getting a new geforce(x) video card. i also have 2 sticks of crucial 128mb pc2100 laying around somewhere (thank goodness i bought these before the outrageous price hike, but i'm kicking myself over and over for not buying the 256mb modules!!)
if one has the money and the desire to have the latest, baddest, fastest video card, then by all means, splurge, splurge..
i like the ati cards too..

I upgraded in about november last year and went from a tbird 900/256 SDRAM to (all from newegg.com):
ECS K7S5A motherboard
AMD Tbird 1.4ghz
256 DDR RAM
30 GB 7200
80 GB 5400
3dfx voodoo 5
Plextor 24X CDRW
I had also the gainward geforce3 but returned it. I'm considering going for the ATI, but again I don't know its performance. The colours for 3dfx are just different than other manufacturers (and I'm used to them), so when I play games like counterstrike on other cards than 3dfx it looks too orangish/greenish for me and I can't do anything about it (I tried tweaking the G3 with color utilities too). Also I had a 21" trinitron monitor but returned that, way too big for me, I got kind of dizzy trying to concentrate on games. I think 19" is the perfect size, I'm on a 17" trinitron right now.
I'm considering going ATI (though I have no reason, some of the later games are choppy on my system but still playable) - or saving up a bit more cash and splurging it all for an HDTV. Currently I have a 27" non HDTV, and the HDTV would help for progressive scan games/dvds, and in general a larger picture.
