Soldering in a single jumper wire you can modify the cuecat to output standard non-encoded barcodes. There is software to do it too. I use it for selling books and cds on Amazon Marketplace.

I can't believe this company is still in business. Does anyone use this stupid thing (for it's intended purpose)?

I can vouch that it works with DVDProfiler when you "spay" it.

I use a cuecat -- for a free PS2 patch cable (joystick keyboard adapter sticks out too far from the back of the PC).
Until looking at the above site, I didn't realize there was a USB version of cuecat available, so I decided to order one of them, too. Why not? Might come in handy some day.

This inspired me to dig out my cuecat I got from IBM. I did some searching and found a program called CatNip (http://www.goldsteinsoftware.com/). The program lives in the system tray and removes the serial # and junk and just gives you the barcode.
Works great with DVD Profiler (http://www.goldsteinsoftware.com/). You do need to make a profile for Catnip to remove the first and last # from the barcode. Anyway I cataloged my dvd collection (around 70 dvd's) in approx 15 minutes complete with photos. Very cool.

Thanks Dopey and Box!
IRISH I tried e-mailing you but your box is full
Just some extra info I had on getting catnip to work. Figure someone might need it.

=============================================
To get Catnip to work with DVD Profiler, click the "Ad Profile" and create a new profile. I called mine, "DVD", then for the filter field, type in "-++++++++++-". Then open up notepad or write and scan a barcode. Then click on the "Catnip settings" and look on the bottom. On my screen it identified the bar code on the DVD as "UPA" I then clicked on the "Catnip Profile" tab and put "UPA" in the "Scan Type" field. Then click on the "Save Scan" Button. After doing this, select "UPA" from the Scan box on the left side, and try to scan the bar code of the DVD again, and you will notice that the first & last digits of the bar code are gone.. Hope this helps

I have catnip but CueVerter works better... you don't have to mess with any settings or anything... it was writen for DVDProfiler and that is what I use
I should check it out. Catnip is just the first thing I found.
thanks

This is Kinda Off Topic but I figure it might interest someone.
If anyone is looking for a package to catalog your book collection, VHS Tape Collection, CD Collection.
http://www.readerware.com/
Has 3 packages. Kind of cool. After Scanning or inputing the Barcode you have the option of which Online Stores to scan for information. It pulls in the covers and all the information automatically.
I did my vhs collection in a couple of hours. 180 some videos. I had to manually enter around 5 or so. A few I just looked up a new # for them on amazon.

you don't even need to use software to decode the cuecat, but rather just pry off one lead off one of the chips inside your cue cat (it's so simple that anyone can do it, just make sure it's not on :D ).

ya, I've got a usb :cat that I just declawed last night. the link above is the site that told me how to. It's easy. I used a soldering iron to heat the pin and it popped out with no problem. My :cat had a slightly diffrent circuit board than the one shown. I just found the chip with the same label as the drawing and lifted the 5th pin. Now it inputs standard numbers when I scan a barcode. It was really easy to do. The usb :cat looks like it is much easier to declaw than the ps2 version.

I've "jumpered" a RADIO SHACK PS/2 cat to sing 'Hi-C' and tried running it with CatNip (my O/S is WINDOWS XP Pro) but all it does is lite-up --- nothing else.
I've tried getting thru to D:C's site for over a week to see if it'll work with original software to see if the surgery was O.K., but it's apparently been down (Have they joined the Dot.Gones???).
Does anyone have an activation code for the CueC@t software, or any ideas???

I tried calling D:C's main office in Dallas to see if it could get an activation code from them by phone, as their web site is "down". So are their phones --- I got a recording from the phone company that their "number cannot be completed as dailed." So it looks like they did join the 'Dot.Gone's'.
