The American version debuted at the LA autoshow recently. I can't wait for this to hit the streets. It will out preform its only competition which is the WRX until the Skyline gets here. And the best part is that its fairly expensive so the Civic Ricers won't be able to drive it thus keeping it cool.

Subaru hinted that they'll bring over the WRX STi if Mitsubishi brings the Evo VII over.

As far as i've heard... they ARE bringing the WRX STI here... in a limited run only. 2500 units for N.A. A friend of a friend has his name and deposit at his local Subby dealership for one.

As for the Evo... I'm saving my $$$ already.

Is the Evo really worth the extra money for the performance you're getting? The version that is coming over here is tuned down to 250 hp, and it's gonna cost at least 5k more than the WRX.
The mere fact that it is more expensive than civics is just gonna tell you who the spoiled riceboys are.

Boy... id smack you if you were here. The Evo is not a rice car by any means... It is built as a race car. Take a while and read through the pdf on the mitsu website. This thing is all ready far superior to the WRX coming off the production line.

Taking your moms civic, lowering it and slapping some stickers is rice. Taking one of the finest rally cars in the world and putting it into production is anything but.

is this really the evo VII? this just looks like the regular lancer that's here in america with a spoiler on it.

isn't the evo VII supposed to look like this? (sorry,i can't really tell if it says VI or VII on it, but i'm pretty sure the yellow one isn't a VII)

The yellow one slaw posted is the VII. The black one you posted is the VI. The VII got rid of the middle support for the wing.

I think if you take a hard look at the american Lancers and the Evo that is coming you will notice major differences, both internally and externally. The Evo has numerous body modifications on it, ranging from the front air dam to the hood scoops to the overall design of the body. Also, internally, they barely compare. Engine, turbo, clutch, suspension... everything.

so the american lancer evo VII is gonna have a twin-turbo 4 also?

I'd still take a WRV over the Evo. No picnic table rear wing, and I can get it as a wagon if I want. (Better for ski trips) Not to mention that the aftermarket has already stepped up to the plate with go-fast parts and suspension bits for the WRX. It'll be a bit til the Evo has any significant aftermarket support. Note I said "significant" - so those of you who love to point out exceptions can stop typing right now.

Not to take anything away from the Evo though... I simply prefer the WRX is all. And if Subaru decides to make the WRX even beter cuz of the Evo, well then we're all winners. ;)

Looks like every other Econobox made in the past ten years. When is the styling going to change in today's cars? They all look the same. Well, at least, most of them.

I don't mean to dis you or anything, but that sounds like something my mom would say. I for one can easily tell cars apart. Why? Because I'm a car enthusiast. If you can't tell cars apart then you may not be as into cars as you purport to be.

the spoiler on the VII looks girly, like a celica spoiler. grr. it just doesn't look at cool as the VI to me.

One of the better car magazines stated a few years ago that if you took an outline of today's cars and put them next to one another, you wouldn't notice any difference.
I am into cars,... I just don't get it when stylists have to copy the same old designs.
There are some unique cars, like the VW, the PT Cruiser and a few American automobiles, like the Firebird, the Mustang, etc.
It just seems that most cheaper cars don't have much personality.

The coolest part of the WRX/EVO is the gigantic fog lights. It's sad to see the Civics with the EVO body kit, because in essence they are claiming to have a car worth double what they are actually driving. Very sad. I don't put Pentium 4 stickers all over my Pentium 3 Box.

so fresh so clean...

i'm almost int he market for a new car, but i'm thinkin about buying something used to beat around for a while. with the gti 25th anniversary edition, lancer evo and wrx sti coming out, i might be better off waiting a few months to make a decision.

It's all in the details - like cars from the 50s. If you compare those to other 50s cars, they are all pretty similar. Same with cars of the 60s and 70s. They're called "styling trends". Near the end of the 80s, econocars stopped looking like folded paper bricks and started taking on a more sophisticated look.

As a result of that, in silhouette, a 95 Civic Coupe looks like a BMW, a WRX looks like a Neon, etc. But who cares what they look like in silhouette? Of COURSE they look similar - it's just a bloody outline! Kinda like CDs, ya know?

There are always exceptions of course. You'll never mistake a Vette, PT Cruiser, New Beetle, or Audi TT for anything else - at least, I never will. But then, I seldom mistake one car for another anyway. Why? Cuz I'm into cars.

Styling trends are made to be broken. If you can appreciate the "fine lines" of the typical econobox, then more power to you. But as for me, they don't impress me much.
And I seriously doubt that anyone would mistake a '57 Chevy for a '57 Ford or a '59 Cadillac for a '59 Dodge.

I think part of the problem (with cars looking very much alike) is with the governmental regulations. Just about all car companies develop cars based on a small number of platforms. For non-sporty cars, things like "cargo space" and "passenger space" are what people look at when they compare vehicles. When you have to start off with a particular platform, want to maximize interior space, minimize exterior dimensions and pass all those bumper/crash tests... you end up with bulbous/rounded stuff we see these days. For the most part, the "sexy looking" cars these days have tiny interiors, or they massage the general bulbous shape into something that resembles a famed yester-year car.

Then again, looks aren't everything. Remember the fins that were on those godawful cars from way back? :heh:

That is a very good point that I didn't consider, helius. However, Bob Lutz, the new CEO of General Motors is a styling freak and is going to make sure that the new designs look good.
