View Full Version : HELP!! Looking for a good deal on a sub-$200 camera!!
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
i'm in the same boat ugly, we should share the leads. You looking for digital or film camera?
Looking for a film camera. I'm currently considering the Canon Elph2. It's selling for $229.99 at Amazon; and I've got a $25 off code for electronics, which will take the price down to $205. Have you seen it for a cheaper price?
Anyone remember that Amazon $5 off code or FREE shipping code posted a while ago?

Here's the $5 code: AMZNCATSAVER
Not sure when it expires..
kar
Thanks onalamwar. This is the code I was searching for. Just tried it and it has already expired. Oh well, too bad for me. But it's uplifting to know that the GotApex users are kind of enough to lend a helping hand.
thats the best deal i've seen on the elph2. I hope those amazon GCs from that cars site come in so we can bring that price down a little more..
I don't know a huge amount about cameras, what are the big differnces between the elph2 and the elph, which is $139 after coupon at VStore?

Ordered the Canon Elph2 Camera Kit for $208 (includes $5 shipping) from Amazon. The kit includes a case, battery, and film.
Elph2 has the following features:
-Tiny automatic Advanced Photo System camera with a 2x zoom lens
-APS features such as midroll change and 3 print formats
-Easy drop-in film loading
-Automatic flash with red-eye reduction mode
Not sure about the original Elph.
ugly, I MIGHT have found something. The elph2 is about to be $224 at mobshop, and as low as $219.
Now these deatils I combined from another post, but there should be a 10% discount at PointClick, so that brings it just under $200, and someone mentioned something about $25 with a Visa card, which could put the Elph 2 @ $175. Might save you a few bucks if it works out...might not though.
hehe you posted that you bought the elph 10 seconds before i posted this. hope it works out for ya at amazon.

AJ, that sounds like a great deal. I think I'm gonna stick to my Amazon order though, for 2 reasons.
1. I'm buying this as a gift and need it ASAP (by the end of this week); and not sure how fast mobshop's shipping is.
2. Not sure whether or not mobshop charges shipping for this item.
3. I don't think it comes with the free camera case, battery, and film.
But thanks for your assistance, man. Hope you end up getting a great deal on whatever camera you decide to buy.
I am stupid. I meant 3 reasons.
Ugly, I got 3 words for you: shove it.
hahah sike.
Youre right about the shipping too. Mobshop and mercata are pretty slow at shipping and can take a week or more if youre unlucky, plus it probably doesnt have the case either. You made out pretty well from amazon.

FWIW, Ugly my dad has an ELPH and it eats batteries pretty fast at the tune of $10/each. He uses a roll of film in maybe a month and ends up replacing the battery at 2 batteries in 3 months. Just to let you know. If you guys find a better deal on the batteries let me know!

Yeah, I heard the ELPH drains batteries pretty quickly also. Hope the ELPH2 is more efficient.

ugly, is your '$25 off electronics' Amazon.com coupon for anyone? i mean, is it posted somewhere? I (and I believe someone else) have been looking around for the very same camera but have had no luck...

I think it's for public use. It does have restrictions, though: for use with a minimum purchase of $100 of electronic item(s). Give it a try and tell me whether or not it works for you.
Here's the code that I used: TCUB-7RXYUL-F3AYSR
that could be helpful stacked with a few GC's...
On the camera thread, anyone know much about the Fuji Digital Camera <a href="http://www.mercata.com/cgi-bin/mercata/mercata/v2/pages/details.jsp?BV_SessionID=1154157541.960909287&BV_EngineID=ecalicldkhhgbemgcfkmcgedkg.0&OID=13010" TARGET="_blank">MX1200 w/1280 x 960 Resolution</a>? My friend has one, and it seems nice, and its sub-$200 at mercata...any experiences?

ugly:
unfortunately, amazon.com wouldn't let me use the code(s) you gave me and says something like "*** This gift certificate has already been applied to your account. If you wish to use this balance towards your purchase, please leave this field blank. If you wish to apply another gift certificate to your account, please enter the new claim code number below. ***" at check out. Any ideas why? I signed up as a new customer too...
It's probably because the coupon code is meant to be used ONCE only. That's really interesting. I never knew that the coupon codes Amazon e-mails out were personalized.

Yes, I've got my MX-1200 from Mercata and it is a very good deal..one thing to keep in mind is that the unit is Made in China. Nothing wrong with it since the quality of the unit is very good...but just FYI.

Hey, Ugly. I am just an amateur photographer, but I've taken some black&white courses. I have a Pentax and it's pretty good. You can get the body and a lens for roughly $200. I happen to like that brand, though others I know swear by Nikon. I use Excite as my search engine when searching for "cheap" and "free" camera equipment. I have a fair amount of luck. I'm assuming you want a 35mm. Do you want a manual, partly-manual, or fully automatic? These things will determine the price. I like to have a fair amount of control. Mine is all three. I can do it all myself, part of it myself, or none of it myself. I do it all, but it's nice to have the options. I'll look around and see what I can find.
