A friend of mine is using Windows XP professional and the machine had only one use set up on it and that is Administrator. Well the password for that account has set to expire and they do not know the old password so they cant set the new one. Is there any way to reset or find out the administrator password with out having to reformat and reinstall Windows XP professional.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

the only way that i know how is with a program called ERD Commander, made by Winternals software - www.winternals.com The program makes a bootable floppy or cd which you can use to change passwords, among lots of other things. The demo version i dont think allows you to change passwords, so you'll need to get the full version to fix your situation....

It sounds like you have basicly the same problem as this guy. This will make it so the password won't expire; however, it won't tell you what the password is. Hope this helps

This is the best thing out there it creates a Linux shell and allows you to list users and change user passwords, but not view passwords...
It is a get out of jail free card called: Offline NT Password & Registry Editor. Beware this can't be used if the floppy is disabled or boot is disabled...
Get it here:
