Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical, $9.99 after price break and MIR.

Not a bad deal at all. From the CompUSA weekend flyer, but available on-line right now... beat the crowd!

These mice are usually USB with a PS/2 adapter.

The rebate form http://www.cusarebates.com/coupons/0204555.pdf
Says nothin about having to purchase it from CompUSA since the form goes straight to Microsoft.
Possible to pick the Wheel Mouse Optical up for less than $20 bucks elsewhere? Could make it even hotter.

Also, how good is Microsoft about sending rebates?
a. 8 weeks
b. 6 months
c. Possibly never

BTW- This deal is valid til Feb 28th

"Also, how good is Microsoft about sending rebates?" 6 weeks at most.

There is no indication that it will work as USB.

The product info page says it has a PS2 connector. My M$ "Intellimouse Explorer", on the other hand, has a USB connector with a PS/2 adapter.

I just hooked mine up and it was a excellent deal. The instructions says "You can connect the pointing device to an available USB port or to a PS/2 mouse port using the USB-to-PS/2 adaptor plug". I would hope to believe this means it will work on a USB port.

Microsoft is super fast sending rebate checks compared to most other places. I just got one last week that only took one month! Considering the other one I got last week was a rebate I had waited 6 Months for and had had to call twice about, Microsoft rebates rule!

rebates, shmebates...i was reading some reviews on epinions.com about this mouse, and given the numerous low ratings, i'd think twice about this mouse.

just head to fry's and buy labtec's $9.99 optical mouse. no need for MIR's or other stuff like that. i'm using one right now, and it works and looks great, despite no rear-end red LED.

I have two of these mice, and they have worked beautifully, never giving me any problems.

I screwed up a rebate for XP upgrade from 2000 ($25) and they sent it back to me. I called the number on the rejection letter and a guy told me what to do. Even with my mess-up I had the check in 8 weeks. I had actually given up on it. . . So it was a nice supprise. The guy on the phone was very helpful (def: helpful - people who help me get money. Gotta pay for this laptop!)

I dunno Kebbies, I have a labtec $9.99 cordless model and the only thing it is good for is collecting dust in the corner of the room that would have otherwise fallen on the floor.

From the CompUSA site:
"Connectors: Mouse - 6 pin mini-DIN (PS/2)"

Also, it appears they upped the price to $14.99.

For those who do not believe it can be used with USB. Here is a link to the Microsoft WheelMouse Optical website.
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/wmo_info.asp
The Compusa website is not complete in its description. The reason it is $24.99 - $10 rebate now is that the $5 instant rebate must have expired.
