View Full Version : Webcerts and AmEx

I'm new to this whole webcert thing so please bear with me. How do I go about sending a webcert to myself? Do I have to setup a new account or will they allow me to send one to the same email it is coming from?
Also, say my account is funded for $200 and I authorize a merchant to use $50. Say they are shady operation, could they overcharge me or create another charge using my webcert info to touch the remaining $150?
Anyways, onto the topic of this post: webcert (but not ecount, strange?) takes AmEx. I'm thinking this creates a loophole (with the use of Paypal) to "draw" cash off of an AmEx. Has anyone tried this?

a) merchants are free to put in an authorization for any amount they want; although, of course, they can only charge you the amount you're billed. the authorization can tie up your funds for a few days though.
b) paypal wont accept webcert issued mastercards, neither will ecount or any other of those email beaming cash clones.

Actually, paypal does. I used it to convert a couple webcertificates from freeride into cash. Heres what you do:
1- Add your webcert acct just like a Mastercard to your Paypal credit card list. Make it your primary card.
2- Make sure the balance in your Paypal acct is at 0 (because we want to draw funds off of the webcert, not off of anything you have in your paypal acct)
3- Email to a TRUSTED FRIEND the amount that you want to take off your webcertificate.
4- Have that person send the money back to you. It will now be in your Paypal account and transferable to wherever you want.
Please don't abuse this information. If someone creates 100 $5.00 webcerts for themselves and adds 100 new credit cards on paypal, they will be caught (and it would be pretty fradulent in the first place).

Oh, by the way..any one of our more experienced members want to direct me on how to get that cool "quote thing" where it automatically quotes what you want in bold?
on the message that you want quoted, click on the little button over the text that has a red arrow coming from the paper.
Then, it automatically does the html for the quotes, go into the quote, and edit what part of the quote you want in there...

Actually I never thought of this part to have the person send it directly back to your Paypal account (I was thinking the person would have to cash out for you too).
So in actuality I could get a "cash advance" from my AmEx (without using that stupid ExpressCash program where you have to give them your checking acct #) up to $200 (the webcertificate.com max) at a rate of 2.5% (the $4.95 service fee). It's a good deal considering you're not supposed to be able to get cash from a charge card in the first place and the 2.5% is lower than most Visa and MC cash advance fees...
