wow, i had to do a double-take there - a review of a non-bleeding edge product!
its nice to know tha G|A is getting back to its roots - getting great deals, or getting the most bang for the buck! i hope to see more reviews like this (maybe budget/value cards, processors, etc?), for us the average consumers who likes the best products WE CAN ACTUALLY AFFORD, and dont really care much for the fastest, or the biggest (or the smallest). Just something great, at a price that wont bleed us dry.
great review, not just for its content, but for its reason!
Gee. Thanks.

Thanks for the comments chosenfool. I definately agree with your comments regarding budget hardware (such as the Samsung writer), in that not everyone can afford the latest and greatest.
Nice review. It is nice to see budget software. Although, the lack of safedisc2 support sort of bothers me. For a bit more I think i'd shed out for the lite-on drive reviewed not too long ago.

Do bear in mind that the latest version of CloneCD "can" be tricked into burning SD2 backups with almost any writer (and I think lpmiller hinted at that in his 32x10x40 LiteON review).
I'm still trying to figure out what Samsung did with the BS05 firmware though, because performance soared quite a bit.
