Store gets 3 1/2 stars for service (out of 5), and this unit sells for as much as $950 elsewhere.

The reason why it is cheaper than usual price is because this is a refurbished unit. Just wanted to point that out since I was about to jump on it. Luckily, I read the FAQ first.

I think this was the online store that had the great deal on Siemens phones, free after rebate & $10 after rebate for caller id phone. I got three of those phones and this company was good to deal with. If I were in the market for this player, I would take the chance to get the refurbished model. Seems like a great deal.

Check out www.vcdhelp.com under DVD Player Compatability List. It will let you know all the specs on this unit. I can't get the page to load at the moment or I would copy/paste the specs here.
I CAN tell you that I own the DW5 model and it plays everything. VCD, SVCD, DVD, and even MP3. Both the box and the manual state that is will NOT play mp3s, but mine does. The only problem I have is on some of my VCDs, the audio is not 100% in synch. These same discs play perfectly in my Apex 3201 setup DVD player.
Also the DR5 has a remote control Region Code hack, if your into watching import DVDs.

I saw the unit in person at Fry's yesterday -- it does play MP3s, and isn't particular heavy with the battery pack attached. The guy said the cheaper portable DVD players like the entry-level Audiovox do not play dual layer dvds and he said they get a lot of returns on it. This one does 2 aspect ratios, 16:9 widescreen and 4:3 standard -- no anamorphic [the higher end Panasonic Palm Theaters do though]. If you don't have a Fry's near you, check The Sharper Image, although they sell it for $1000:

Click on more product info so you can see the details about it.
You can also pick up on of those $500 room ionizers while you are there :)

Thanks for the link. But that link is to the wrong product. That was for the AI577. The model that was listed for sale was the XDDW7. I am having a real difficult time in find an online merchant or retail store that carries this. If you compare the 2, the picture is different too.

Sorry, I assumed it was the same! Check eBay's closed auctions. Many have a good detailed description of the product.
