Don't you feel like that is abusing the system a little bit?
Causing a company to lose a lot of money is quite a bit different than causing it to make less of a profit...

I did at Christmas. I was able to get a Imagination Desk for my son (retails $45-49) for $9.99.

They were supposed to be clearancing them out at $29.99.

dag16,
your right...that was a bit of a stupid comment i made. Nor do i want to go to that extreme. Honestly, i think my jealousy of not gettin in on the deal(if it goes through, good luck to whom) overpowered my normal chain of thought.

The window of opportunity was 7AM-11AM CST... I am glad I ordered only one, I have bad feelings about this. As Dell never honors there messups and I don't know about BestBuy.com (I have ordered there 8 times including T2 for 4.99)

If this does go through, I will have a GF3 TI500 Card Expert for sale! For a tad cheaper than retail wink wink. I didn't hesitate once when I saw the deal, I was on it. Compusa.com had it for 400 all day! Lets just say I am one happy SOB!

You honestly think they did it on purpose? Why, do you believe Best Buy likes having a 1000 people ticked at them? Is this some sort of strange marketing policy gone evil?

This is no different then when they make a mistake in the print ad, and when you get there they have a sign that says sorry for the confusion. Unless they actually complete the transaction, i.e. charge you, you don't really have a recourse. Chances are, the person doing the page was popping in the price of the MX card...happens. You tried, you failed, end of story. Sometimes you get lucky.

It is just like when they make a "mistake" in an add. And how often does best buy do this? Very often. Lets say they have a 40 gig Maxtor 7200 rpm advertised on sale, when you get there its only save $5 instead of $50. They got you in the store by this time didn't they? They are also still trying to push the product in your face at the not so good sale price as well.

There is nothing good about the GeForce 4 MX card - it's a crippled Geforce 3, really.

Justin42
02-09-2002, 12:05 AM
The GF4MX's are really GF2MX's on steroids... they have none of the DirectX 8 support of the GF3's.

And supposedly they are discontinuing the GF3 chips, like, NOW.

Really dumb move on NVidia's part. The GF3 TI 200 was set to be an awesome price/value match. Seems like they're going all out on the arrogance that seems to come with being the 3d Market Leader (seems to affect any company... look at where 3dfx is now!)

RIP 3dfx. :(

Saw the GeForce4 MX 420 instore for $129 at Best Buy. The GeForce 3 MX 420 is much better. On the GF4 the memory bandwidth is slower [even though it has more] and the only thing faster is the core clock but you can overclock anyway.

ummm.....no....

Ti4600 - 10,400 MB/s
Ti4400 - 8,800 MB/s
Ti4200 - 8,000 MB/s
GF3 ti500 - 8,000 MB/s

MX460 - 8,800 MB/s
MX440 - 6,400 MB/s
MX420 - 2,656 MB/s
GF3 ti200 - 6,400 MB/s

And there is no GF3 MX420

I sent in my complaints. Lets hope for the best... I want this think badly.

sbp
02-10-2002, 11:10 AM
cratervalley meant the GeForce 2 MX400. http://sbp777.homestead.com/files/wink2.gif

Most GeForce 2 MX400 use 128-bit sdram. Creative had one that used ddr ram but it was 64-bit DDR ram. The 64-bit DDR ram would give the same performance as 128-bit sdram. http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/01q2/010502/mx400-01.html

The GeForce 2 MX400 and the GeForce 4 MX420 have the same amount of bandwidth (http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/02q1/020206/geforce4-07.html). But the GeForce 4 MX420 comes with lightspeed memory architecture. Even with that architecture, the GeForce 4 MX420 is not much faster. And of course the GeForce 4 MX420 costs more.

Having all these different videocards is confusing for customers but it makes sense from a bin sorting perspective. All these videocard versions may be a reason why some manufacturers {Hercules and Gigabyte} have left for ATI. That and the pace of Nvidia videocard chip releases.

Here's a little heads up on some articles posted on The Register (a UK-Based IT kinda news-site).

http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/24000.html

and

http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/24005.html

pay close attention to the first article, as it has links to a very similar story that happened at one of Kodak's UK-based e-shops. After much moaning and griping, enough unhappy customers were able to coax Kodak into honoring the "mistaken" price and take the hit in order to save face. I highly recommend reading up on this, especially if you were able to get in an order at the $129 price.
