from windows product updates on MS site, i installed windows updates in the past few weeks, and i am now receivign an error message:
"files that are needed by windows have been replaced by an unrecognizable file, and need to be replaced. please insert your win2k cd"
The files that need to be replaced, found in my event log, are:
\winnt\system32\dxmasf.dll and
\winnt\system32\d3dref.dll
One seems to be a windows media player file, and the other seems to be a direct draw file. Funny thing is, the only thing i installed was DirectX8.1, and that was installed 3 weeks before these messages started appearing. Other than that, i got a "windows 2k security rollup package", a 3com driver update, a Promise Tech driver update, and thats it.
Has anyone else had wierd problems like this with directx 8.1? i cant report to microsoft :)
I havent replaced the files, mainly because the computer is working fine without them, and i know what happens if you mix file versions.
If anyone else has noticed oddities like this one, please let me know! TIA
