I currently have Linux/Windows ME running as a router to share the internet connection between multiple computers. Would it be possible to install an additional wireless PCI card and use that as a connection to the home lan as well?

Basically, do I need a WAP or not? Can I get away with:

1) wireless PCI card on router system
2) wireless PCI card on main computer
3) wireless pccard on laptop

and have it all work? All the WAPs seem to just provide routing capability.. I just need a dumb hub.

In answering my own question.. YES you can. Ofcourse, the wired LAN will have one subnet while the wireless one will have another subnet. Not sure how this is going to affect the ICS, if at all.

Actually, a WAP is just a wireless hub. It's only a router if a router is built in (in addition to the hub). Then you need:

Wired NIC in router PC connecting to WAP
Wireless on PC
Wireless on laptop

Also, there is no reason why the wired & wireless need to be on different subnets - they can all be on the same one. ICS should not be affected - you're still doing the same thing, just with a different medium (wireless).

Good luck!

I would go with a router/firewall wireless hub all in one like the linksys, dlink, belkin, etc. You get added protection it just makes things easier and you save on power but you can do it if you want...
