Anyone have a good recommendation for a cell phone and service in the NYC area?

Griz,

I live out in Long Island but work in the city, and I use Sprint..

I signed up for 500 minutes of the one-rate for $50 a month. I, like Apex, am getting married this year (October) so I wanted to allow my fiancee' to share my minutes..

We hooked up the "add-a-phone" plan which basically allows two phones to share a pool of minutes for a month. We have had it for about three months now and haven't gone over... My total bill comes to about 80.00 a month (I also have the replace-a-phone insurance plan, and taxes and fees..)

The reception in the city has been incredible, and it even works in some of the subways (especially the Lex).. but overall I can not complain..

If you travel at all in the US, you can take your phone with you and use it w/o any extra charges (which I liked..)

Good luck..

I am interested in getting a phone too. need neational plan because local coverage is not enough for me. The sprint service utilizes which phones? Is reception good?

Clueless,

I use a Sanyo phone.. SCP4000.. it's a dual band phone (digital/analog) because hey, you just never know..

Sprint PCS only covers the digital calls -- anything on the old analog network will incur roaming charges..

other than that, the phone is good.. reception is really good where I am (in NYC or out on Long Island), even though I run into some dead zones as I get rather out on the Island.. your mileage may vary..

So far I have been pleased with the service..I used to have AT&T before my phone was stolen, and the reason I chose Sprint was because of the Add-a-phone plan..
