Hello all, I'm in some dire need of help. Ok, what happened was that about a year ago I bought a toshiba satellite 1605 CDS with Win 98 preinstalled. We tried adding a network card into it and had some problems. My old roommate finally got it to work but he had to install Windows ME. Anyways, about a year later I can't use the network card. I try to buy a new network card, but that doesn't work either. Anyways, I decided to go back to Win98 (Win ME was making my comp. soooo slow anyways) so I fdisk, format, and install Win98. Anyways, now the sound card doesn't work, and the network card still doesn't work (either of them). I also had problems with the video card, but I was able to fix that with a patch that I found on the toshiba website. I also found a sound card patch, but when I installed that, my computer spends forever readjusting my settings and never finishes. So, anyways, I can't get my winamp to work. I don't know if this will help any, but while it's booting up, it flashes a red box that says: Save to disk feature is disabled. Run Phdisk for information. FILE: Create new Partition: Consult manual. Hit any key to exit. The screen just flashes really quickly and goes away without me hitting any key. Anyways, if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, or any cheap places that I can bring this to to get it fixed (I live in Chicago) I'd really really appreciate it. Thanks.

do you still have the recovery CD that came with the TOSHIBA?

I recommend using that cd to find the drivers or any other cd that came with it.

Funny thing is that the only thing that came with the laptop is a floppy disk and it's useless (already tried it). :bawl:

It may still be under warranty and you could send it back to Toshiba and they will image the drive with factory defaults. You should have gotten the CD with a copy of Win98 SE. The floppy may have had a restore to factory defaults that is usually hidden on the hard drive and is now gone when you fdisked it.

I sounds like a driver issue with your sound card.
