Ok. I didn't know where to post this since it's not really hardware in the sense of computer hardware. I am looking to buy an MP3 player. One of the things that I want it for is so I can listen to music while running. I really like the Archos Jukebox and NOMAD but you just can't run and carry one of those. So I was hoping to get one of the ones that attach to your arm or whatever or something that attachs SOMEWHERE so I can run and listen to mp3s. Anyone know of a good product that would be perfect for this situation?

As much as I dislike the Mac platform (which really isn't THAT much) the iPod is a pretty slick little Mp3 player with loads of space, something like 5 gb. Its pretty small, as well. Check CNet, they have alot of them reviewed.

For the price of the 5gb Ipod you could get the 20gb Nomad. They make discman type mp3cd players for 'sports'. I'd go with whatever is lighter in weight between nomad and mp3cd player.

Nomad's larger than the iPod, though. There are a couple of really small Mp3 players out there that max out at maybe 128mb. IGN.com's Gear section did some reviews on some pretty small and nice players, too.

You've gotta love the Got Apex OT forums. 1 person answers the question, everyone else gets totally sidetracked.

Is there a thank you in there somewhere? Anyways I have heard good things about the 64 MB Nomad. You can get a 128 MB expansion card, around $70 i believe, and have 192 MB of music to take with you. I've heard you can rattle the hell out of them too and they work great. The sound is clean as well.

since i sell these all day...

first of all, i highly recommend the intel pocket concert (msrp $299, you can find it at BB for 250, possibly with another 50 off mail in) because it has 128 mb, built in FM radio tuner, slim light aluminum case (should be durable when you run)...and i do believe the new packages give you the acc. kit in the box, so it's a good by, oh yea and it displays the id3 tags so you know what you're listening.

as far as the nomads and the jukebox's, they are big bulky things and i personnally don't recommend them to people who want to work out, only for those who want a lot of music with them on the go. i don't ever recomment the sonys because they don't actually play mp3's they play atr-3's which are the mini-disc format (even though they are at like 132 kbit/sec bitrate, good compression and quality, the conversion rate is horrendous). i don't ever recomment those rio volts (cause i have one) it's basically a cd player and regardless of what they say it will skip (so will the jukeboxes...moving parts).

if you want something with a strap, i'd suggest either the nike rio (they have a 32, 64, and 128 mg versions, hard to find though) and they are upgradeable via MMC. those guys come with a shoulder strap and a remote that you can clip to your shirt or some thing. the only other thing with a shoulder strap is a samsung yepp (small version) it has no upgrade ports so you're stuck at 64 but it does have a built in mic for voice recording (as if you're goin to need that, works with pc only).

that's all i have to say, i like the IPOD but i don't have a mac or the $$$...the firewire tranxfer and scroll wheel is cool.

if you have any other questions, just ask...like i said, i sell these things all day for like the last two x-mas...i hope you find this useful

ps...i suggest you convert your mp3's from your 128 or 192 kbit to 96 kbit bitrate so that you have more playing time on the mp3 player that you get. i had an old rio 300 and got a good hour out of 32 mb...good stuff...to bad i dropped it alot.

I guess the amount of memory you want depends on what kind of shape you're in. If you're fit enough to run for an hour, then you might need at least a 64MB player. 128MB would be more than enough. Now if I were to use one while jogging, I think my 8MB handheld computer could provide enough entertainment to cover warm up, running and stretching all combined.

I have had a RIO 500 which i think was a quality product.
so i ended up buying a RIO 800 which broke with in the first week. it just stopped working ....

anyways I bought the intel pocket concert like the dude above recomended. but i got a a better deal on it .... just shop around i found it on price grabber for $180 shipped plus a $50 mail in rebate (still waiting on that), but i think that the intel pocket concert is a great MP3 player, only draw back is it only hast 128 mb of memory, but 4 hours is way longer than i would want to run in a day
