with a dumb question. how does one "print screen" in winXP?

Uh it's just like Win98. Print the "Print Scrn" key and it'll copy whatever is on your screen to clipboard. Open up an image editor, then paste it.

I feel so smart now... :)

it's not working.

so now what?

i'm using this program called abc2win, which translates a simple text code into musical notes on staff paper. the program only allows you to print if you have a registered copy. so i thought i'd be all sly and bypass it with a print screen, but it doesn't work. any ideas?

EDIT: actually, print screen doesn't work for any program... and i know i haven't spilled sobe on that key recently... so wtf? how can i be screwing up just hitting a friggin key?!?!?!

EDIT: okay, i read passwird's instructions again... i opened up the "paint" program... now how do i open what i copied into paint?

Really, it doesn't work?

Well, it should, and here's another tip..
you press the "Print Screen" key to get a snapshot of the whole screen...
then you can paste in a simple image editor like Microsoft Paint. Just open up Paint, and paste (CTRL-V, or menu, edit, paste)

if you want a snapshot of just the window you're working on... (e.g. a MSIE window...), then use CTRL-ALT-PrintScreen...and paste like described above.

yeah right! You should have seen my mouth drop! "*gasp* I know something WF doesn't?" Then the earth stopped moving... you didn't feel it?

LOL

Guess I have too much trivial info like that in my head... maybe I should have used my cells for something more important... hehe

j/k, welfare! hee hee! i dont use the print screen key at all.

why dontcha just download a very very very small program that prints screen or the active window, and dumps it on your desktop as a bitmap file? no more opening paint (which is too cumbersome for me). Its called Capture (man, how do they come up with those exotic sounding names?:P), and its only 212k. did i say its a very very very small file? :)

http://analogx.com/contents/download/system/capture.htm

you can actually configure it to just dump the captured screen bmp file to any folder you wish. Or if you want it to capture just the active window.
chosen, that's great. it will be especially helpful when i'm doing documentation of programs or bugs, etc, and need screen shots.

have you considered buying music? there's also the possibility of transposing for yourself :P

no, no, no... i do buy music. but there's a lot of good stuff out there already in abc format... and rather than spend an hour translating some crap that looks like

f4 e4|d4 c4|B4 A4|B4 c4|[d4f4] [c4e4]|[B4d4] [A4c4]|[G4B4] [F4A4] [G4B4] [A4c4]|[d4f4] [c4e4]|! (d/2c/2)B/2c/2 d/2e/2f b/1a3|(g/2f/2 e/2g/2 f/2e

into standard notation, i can just plug it into the program and print.

and i do buy music. really! i just bought "hot licks for bluegrass fiddle." brand new even! (rather than half.com, where i've purchased just about all of my other sheet music...) :P so the writer actually got some royalties.

and i'll consider buying more as soon as a certain somebody starts paying for his dvd's... :hmm:

how will you learn to improvise if you don't want ear training? all the good riffs are on recordings and not really in books. you gotta wait for those, if they decide to send them out. and what about that great riff you heard live? the one-time deal...that may have been an accident?

ear training can only help. where's the damned trout to bonk this girl with?
