I think I got over $900 back last year. I should be getting well over a grand back this year! :thumb:

i'm not sure.
i have to complete my information by friday, send it to my preparer, and i'll get it back by the middle of march so i can submit it.
i'm so lucky, b/c i worked in 5 states last year. as a result, my company is having someone do my taxes for me. i hate doing taxes, so this is a big bonus :)

I gotta say though, turbo tax makes life a hell lot easier.

Yeah, I'm getting money back. It sucks that I don't qualify for EIC, though. :(
Anyway, I'm surprised that all of you guys have your taxes done for you. I don't think it is that big of a deal, really. I had 6 different W2s this year, and it still took me less than a half hour to do my taxes.

Getting some back. If I didn't have a house, I wouldn't be getting any.

Just got my refund last Friday. $4134, my largest ever! Thank you, Republican Congress, for the Additional Child Tax Credit! :D

i got back my state check on saturday, and promptly spent it.
i'm still waiting for my federal check, which will be a lot more than the state check.

Got almost $2K back last year between state and federal.
This year, I'm paying a little in on federal. Getting a little
back on state. I'll end up plus $500 or so.
Big drop from last year. That 'ol tax cut didn't do me much good...

Typically if you get a refund, it's because the gub'mint took too much of your money from each check. It's like giving an interest-free loan to the IRS. It would be more financially sound to either get a small refund, or have to pay in a small amount on April 15th.
I did not have any federal tax withheld from my check. My refund is due to the Additional Child Tax Credit, which gives you a refund from your Social Security withholding (if you have a bajillion kids.)

Yeah, that's true, but I'd rather have them take a little extra and send me the change than have to fork over money come April.
My refund is only $140 so the interest either way wouldn't be that much.

I was told by a financial advisor that any refund under $250 is just about right. It sounds like your withholding is right-on.

*cough* *gag* *sputter*
paying over $3,500
*cough* *gag* *sputter*
went to H&R block to do 'em. being a newlywed with 4 W2s and 3 1099s, I had zero idea with where to start and what i could legitimately deduct as home-based bidness stuff. I'm still unsure though, $3,500 is friggin RIDICULOUS, if'n you ask me, especially since I had the same full-time job the entire year (as did my wife). I'm gonna redo them and see if H&R made a mistake somewhere and possibly amend them.

I'll get all of it back, because you have to make a certain amount for them to keep any, and i'm not makin over that amount with this job.

I was totally expecting a refund this year, some expected cashíto to blow on something frivolous like an Xbox or hard drive or ram. But, no.
I could've paid a hooker a 10th of that and had a much better time :(

Yeah, that is the financially correct answer, but after I bought my house a few years ago, I never changed my witholding rate. I personally like getting a big windfall every spring, so I can pay cash for a big-ticket item or 2. This year its going to be a new computer, and I've also been thinking about LASIK surgery. And with interest rates so low, I'm not getting "raped" by the government.

i'm so in trouble this year, i still haven't gotten my w2 forms from my main job last year, and its killing me cause i need it so i can get more money from my college. as for how much i owe? hmmm, i didn't have any taxes taken out of my unemployment, so i'm assuming its going to be quite high. plus what i owe from last year, wahoo. & i'm thinking about declaring bankruptcy. but then i think that i'm not in comparitivly that much debt, so i might as well suck it up.
so on friday i'm going to file a complaint against my former employer w/ the irs. then maybe the biatch in payroll that i spoke w/ on the phone will fax me a copy of my w2s.

I'm getting back a lot - I took some big hits on internet stocks, have a new dependent, & I'm pretty sure my last company was witholding too much federal $$. (Also helps to have a lot of interest expense on that mortgage!)

ok, i can't say i'm an expert on this, but i would strongly advise against going to H&R Block.
my GF's grandparents insist on going there every year (you know how old people get set in their ways...). anyway, they're two retired people who totally live off their social security and have no other outside income. yet every year, H&R Block makes them pay in.
yet the one year my GF's mom finally got them to take it to another tax preparer, they got a refund. still, they persist in using the local H&R Block.
so it sounds like Block may not be the smartest tax service around :(

Don't take it in - use Turbotax! What do you think H&R Block does? That's right - they plug all of your numbers into a Turbotax-style program.
Save yourself a few hundred beans & do it yourself. It's not hard...

Whatever you do, DON'T declare bankrupcy. It takes 7 years to clear it and during those 7 years, you're life will be hell because you won't be able to get anything on your own. You gotta rely on everyone to help you. That includes anything that requires credit check.
One thing I learn from owing money to banks is that you gotta budget yourself and make sacrifices. Hope things work out.
