my guess is that it wasn't taken with a digital camera so he had to make a print of it to scan in.

ya i tend to use REAL film im sure this is a shock to you all but im poor(1) and i like printing my pics to my own exacts(2). :D

Well, when he said print, I assumed it was from a printer or something cause I'm not used to regular film taking a long time to print?

as in print i mean : put film innegative carrier, make test strip( 5, 10, 15, 20 seconds on 3rd highest light), enlarge final copy, put through print process ( developer, stop, hypo(water), fixer, then wash) :D and you have a perfect picture or so you think until ur crap ass POS treacher gives you a 70 on a project that was way better then the rest of the illiterate class..... BAH
