I really hope that best actor goes to Russel Crowe. I just saw A Beautiful Mind, and, well, he did a beautiful job! :thumb:

Lord of the Rings does deserve all of the nominations that it has received. There were not a great deal of movies release last year that were Oscar-worthy in my opinion.

Ya cole, that's what I mean. LOTR was pretty good, but it wasn't this incredibly awesome movie. It was well done, but that acting in it wasn't anything greater than you'd see at your local renaissence festival. The roles in it just don't give room for it, as they do in other movies like Beautiful mind.

The 13 nominations come in other categories, such as makeup, music, sound, visual effects, cinemetography, directing, and of course, best picture. And, in my opinon, the Fellowship of the Ring WAS an awesome movie! :D

I think the nominations came in part because of how much $ it raked it. You never know. I haven't watched Beautiful Mind or Moulin Rouge, but I enjoyed LOTR... both times i watched it =P

I saw "A Beautiful Mind" last weekend, and Russel Crowe did an excellent job. I would be shocked if he didn't get an Oscar. As for LOTR, fantasy movies have a poor history at the Oscars but it would be disappointing if it didn't gather a few.

A Beautiful Mind was Fab wasn't it..I was totally blown away by the whole part about "you know what"..(I won't tell as to not ruin it for those who haven't seen it)...I saw Vanilla Sky last night at the $1.59 theater..it was SOOOOO BADDDDDDDDDDDDD..omg...besides being bad in general, Tom Cruise is not really hanging on to that Superstar quality of looking good and acting good..he's starting to look um..scrungy.

It did get a nomination for best supporting actor - Sir Ian McKellen. In my opinion, a deserved nomination.

"Best Picture" doesn't really mean what it used to mean. It used to be that you watch an old "Best Picture" nominated/awarded movie and it was actually a good movie. Now it seems to implicate a lot more than just the quality of the movie.
