hi. i have an LCD monitor and i was just wondering why bad pixels occur and if anything can be done about them. thanks.

When this occurs, it usually occurs during the manufacturing process. There are "lit pixels" (always on with a color or just white) or "dead pixels" (always black). There's really not much you can do about it.
As far as quality control, some manufacturers accept a certain number of these defective pixels. Any less than this and they probably won't replace it. The number of defective pixels a manufacturer will accept will depend on the manufacturer as well as the size of the monitor. If there are quite a few of defective pixels, it would probably be best that you call up tech support and see if you could get a replacement. Good luck. :)

Bad pixels are unavoidable. If manufacturers vowed to never ship a unit with a bad pixel, you would never be able to reasonably afford an LCD monitor. I hope that your bad pixels are in less-noticable areas than the middle of the screen. Those can be fairly annoying!
